I don't like trashmetal.

More into Sludge and postmetal or, if it should be wild, screamo, post-hardcore and stuff....

Isis - The Beginning and The End

Envy - Footsteps in the Distance

Boneflower - Starless

Symphony X - The Odyssey is my usual answer to the 'Favorite metal song?' question and has been for a while now :)

It's an amazing song, it's so cinematic, so powerful, so epic. Symphony X, like any of the bands on this list, is one of my favorite bands, and I find it quite difficult to choose a single song from them, but "The Odyssey" is definitely one of the top ones.

Good list of songs and bands. I have diff fav songs from a lot of the band, like Symphony X - Seven, Dimmu Borgir - Lepers Among Us, After Forever - Who I Am, and I also prefer Vader's cover for Raining Blood over the original, etc etc. Long time since seeing someone mention Old Man's Child as well, used to listen to them a lot years back.

This is the great thing about this music. They're not one-hit wonders. Great selection of yours. I like those songs a lot, too.

Does this count as metal? This? What about this one? And this one? These two probably also count, right? Oh, and can't forget this, this and this. Oh, yeah, and there's this one too.

Um, I don't know music genres. Do any of those count as metal? Well, if they do, then they are my answer. XD

Sure, most of those songs count as Metal music, in different styles. I'm not usually into soundtracks, but they are definitely good suggestions.

Jokes aside, very difficult question.

A couple from the top of my head:

Operation: MIndcrime is rightfully considered a classic, but Tyranny is a far worthier heir to its throne than the actual follow-up to Operation: Mindcrime. Shadow Gallery in general is criminally underrated.

I think that Room V is also an arguably a better album than Operation Mindcrime II.

Shadow Gallery needs more love

Sabbath and especially Maiden have a bunch of tunes near the top of my list, too. I'll skip those since they're already well represented here. Five cool songs that immediately sprang to mind when seeing the topic:

Dir En Grey - Vinushka: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APITF3yAvGQ

Manticora - When Forever Ends (probably "only" a top 5-10 Manticora song for me -- most of their individual tracks aren't up on YT -- but all my favorite songs by them are pretty close to all-timer status for me): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPzQcz4iGIE

Ayreon - Isis and Osiris: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6YFbgMzkZY

Leprous ft. Ihsahn (whose work in Emperor is top 10 worthy, too) - Contaminate Me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78-vJwCVJvk

Death - Flesh and the Power It Holds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wK4VPM-0ssU

Marta Gabriel is awesome, polska heavy metal \m/

Peavy Vagner and his "Rage" are FOREVER
https://youtu.be/2HaPsPwlUIE

Love and can't never forget Elisa C Martin's vocal (she also singed with early Black Moor)
https://youtu.be/GfRHySn0oTs
"Conquest of the Seven Seas" is the best (for me) power metal album for last 5 years (even if it was made only by Peter Crowley alone)

also Bulgarian prog metal band are awesome too (wish they had more albums)

It's one heck of a stretch and then some, but I think it's worth it to get away with sharing this. Just saw it and it made me lol. We'll just put quotation marks around the word metal, and then I think it'll count.
