Should games cards be attached to achievements?
Steam Achievement Manager, never used it myself but I've seen it mentioned in this forum multiple times so I though it was common knowledge (I learned of it's existence here).

Dunno. Just asking. I'm not an achievement hunter as well

After the christmas event fiasco, I highly doubt Valve will implement anything attached to achievements ever again.

+@doctorofjournalism how is that related to achievements?

Wrong christmas. There was an event where achievements unlocked free items/games and it was exploited en masse.

The coal event, right? I didn't have any way to spend back then, barely had something that could pass as a computer at that point, but I think I remember all sorts of stuff was happening with that.

Must've been the Coal yes. Rewards tied to specific achievements in specific games.
Ed McMillen had a good laugh about it, because Super Meat Boy was one of the games involved, and Valve goofed and attached the reward to one of the hardest achievements, instead of one of the "manageable also for plebs" as intended.

That was the original idea but due to achievement cheating software Valve decided against it. I do think it's be cooler though. And would add a lot of value to some cards since they might be harder to get and therefore rarer.

Two things are separate and mutually inclusive of each other. Even if they were, people would be able to get around it with the software mentioned above. Games with no achievements would have no cards. I hope they don't implement this idea cause it will make people achievement hunt for the cards.

An added issue is that some games have broken achievements. So, if you can't get the achievement, you also cant get the card and a bigger slap in the face.

I have seen this idea before and i quite like it. As people mentioned software to cheat your achievements exists but from the other hand software to idle your games exists as well. This seems to me like ''cheating'' to get the cards also. The ''problem'' is that this way no achievement games would have zero cards and there are way too many games with broken chievos.

Not a fan of this idea. For me an even better change (which also won't be done by Valve) would be removing the cards system :P

I think they should be attached for a few flawed reasons.
1) No duplicates
2) You will know what card you'll get next
3) You will know your progress towards the card you want
4) Cards in the market will be worth more (which only benefits people like me who would rather sale them than make badges)
Of course there are negatives also, and the SAM software that I just learned about when I visited this thread.
It doesn't feel rewarding as it is though, since you can just leave a game idling and get the cards.

I don't think so, because some games have achievements that are so difficult that most people will never get them, and others are achievement spam that you get thousands just by opening the game. Plus as others have mentioned, people would just use SAM to unlock the achievements if that were made a requirement. Don't get me wrong, I do think the achievement / cards system is a mess especially with all the shovelware that's being released daily but I don't think this is the right way to fix it (if it's even possible at this point, which I doubt).

Next thing, people will start demanding achievements for completing sets and crafting badges...

Huh? Obviously Volvo won't do it, 'cause like this it gives more profitz.
What do you think, though?
