I've only played the first chapter so far after picking it up recently, but so far my impression is that it's a pretty good adventure game with somewhat clunky controls, that makes frequent references to the movies. I'm not sure it would make much sense if you jumped into it without any previous knowledge of the series.

Not really. The movies themselves are often very self-referential and it's no more prominent in the game than it was in the movies. If you're not bothered by it when you watch the movies, the game should be fine. But again, I'm only like 2 hours into it, so I don't have the most complete perspective on it.

The game is a sequel to the movies, and to an extent, it assumes you've already seen the movies, both to understand the characters and to get the various little references and callbacks.
I do mildly recommend playing the game if you like Back to the Future and adventure games. It's not the best ever, but it is fun enough.

As others have said watch the movies first!(!!!!!!)
I love the movies -- they are "movies I grew up with" movies. So for me, the games have a very high bar set for them. To me, the games are just "alright". I could have gone without playing them, but I'm not bothered that I did. They don't ruin anything in the series, but they aren't a "must watch" part of it either.

Watch the movies then play the game. The game makes huge references to the movies. I loved every bit of it, especially episodes 4 and 5. And it had an awesome ending!

Just finished the last episode yesterday and loved it. Watch the original trilogy and then play it because it really is BTTF 4. The puzzles are pretty good. The voice actors are fantastic. Everything about the game is pretty polished. I'd love to see TellTale do another season of it.

I really should play it, I have the GOG version installed. Loved it for an hour, had to go out for an errand and haven't played it since. It's been like a month. I'll play it on the weekend. From what I've played, the new characters from the game seem to fit in with the types of characters in the movies and it feels like a sequel.

So I was gifted the current (and by far the most amazing one yet) Humble Bundle Weekly and it included the Back to the Future game and I thought if it'd be great way to get into the series since I have yet to see them.
So I want to know what do you think of the game, and does it fit well with the series?
Thanks!
