Because nobody who was awake in the past 3000 years or so would be surprised if you told them that the mainland Chinese are among the most racist people on planet Earth. It is a fact of life, like the rampant homophobia of Russia and Iran, the ridiculous xenophobia of Hungary or the United States' refusal to provide any sort of rational medical care for its citizens. It is a part of the "why negative stereotypes are actually true" game we play since the conception of civilisation.
