You read Prison School but not Nozoki Ana? And technically The Breaker is manhwa. But manga and manhwa are about the same.

I haven't had any serious readings of Manga as of yet but I'm looking in to reading Fairy Tail, which I've heard has a good anime series as well. There's also two that I've read a month-ish ago but I'm going to be weirdo and not say what ones they are. Y'know, because reasons. You can Steam message me if you're really curious.

Fairy Tail frustrates me because the author is obviously very creative, but leans on a lot of very predictable shonen tropes. I would've liked it a lot more if it devoted more time to worldbuilding, because there are some very interesting concepts present. But around the second or third tournament arc I started losing momentum and eventually gave up on it.

Warning : Random junk that has nothing to do with the topic at hand, sort of :

I wouldn't know anything about any of this because I'm just a filthy ignorant American :P. On a serious note, I have yet to read a single manga with serious intent so far. I've just been reading minor random ones of a certain type so far and even then, I have no idea what 99% of the damn words mean. What the hell is shonen? I may never know. That being said, Fairy Tail seems to be pretty long and AFAIK it's still going...?

Shonen are manga aimed primarily at teenage boys. They're usually action series. They're not bad (I like a lot of them) but they tend to be kind of formulaic, especially the bad ones.

Fairy Tail's been going for a while and to my knowledge won't be ending any time soon, yeah.

If you want a more serious manga, I can try to make a recommendation, but what exactly do you mean by serious?

Well, I mean serious as in anything that isn't there to feed my boredom aka I don't take it as a joke to amuse me. There seems to be a lot of mangas / anthology shorts(which, to my knowledge, they have magazines with shorts or something like that in Japan?) that aren't entirely serious. Somebody suggested a ton of anime for me to start off with in the latest anime thread a while back so if i ever want to try something new, I have that.

I guess in terms of genre, it doesn't matter. Anything that isn't merely "What the hell am I reading? Why am I reading this? This is funny beyond comprehension."

If you want a more serious story, my off-the-top-of-my-head recommendation would be Bokurano. It seems predictable at first, but give it a few chapters. I'll avoid saying too much about it because it's better if you don't spoil anything.

Fair enough. Anyways, to clarify since I feel like I did a bad job (as always) at explaining what I meant, I'm not against comedic themes. I just meant something that takes itself seriously. Stories that know they don't make sense and make fun of itself get annoying sometimes.

I can suggest some serious series with darker tone like Berserk, Fist of the North Star, Akira, 20th Century Boys. Monster, Death Note,...

I think I see what you mean. In that case, you'd probably like Bokurano, but you'd hate Fairy Tail. Fairy Tail gets pretty silly.

Berserk, natch.
Gantz
Some ones I haven't seen:
Hellsing (surprising not to see this one - I thought it was pretty popular? anyway it's really cool)
Drifters (same author, really cool premise)
Biomega (first volume is probably best b/c it gets a little confusing, at least in the translation I read)
Blame! (same author as Biomega, SO MUCH EXPLOSION OH WOW)
Raiders (only first volume b/c couldn't find more IIRC, but I liked it)

I read a lot more Western comics tho to be honest.

Hellsing is a classic, but I don't think it has been popular recently. Maybe a few years ago :)

I'm not saying this at order
But feel free to check them all (I'll mention something other than yours)

Katekyo Hitman Reborn (Still my favorite shounen genre)
Noblesse
Yotsuba&! (Comedy)
Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari (Light Novel is better though)
Tsurezure Children (Comedy)
Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun (Way too funny xD)
Zai x 10 (If you like Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou)
Silver spoon
Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai
Sora no Otoshimono
Shinryaku Ika-musume (Short + comedy)

My favorite:
Mushoku Tensei: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu (Read the Light Novel, believe me it's really worth... But you have to be older than 18 years old to read this :P)

Well you probably won't read all of these replies :P

Eyyyyy, another fellow novel-reader! The light novels are definitely better than the mangas for most works.

Yes most of them
The most important thing in LN is the story
So when they failed at it, it'll be hard to become popular

Not like in manga, you can just draw something cute & give it funny story
Then done, you can become popular.. Even without where the story will going to

But don't get me wrong, some of the manga (manhwa too!) are amazing xD

Which one is your favorite so far?
I recommend you to read Mushoku Tensei :P

I've read Mushoku Tensei and am now keeping up to date with Redundancy. There are plenty of great LN but the TL speed of Japanese WN/LN is still quite slow nowadays. My favourite LNs haven't changed for a few years. It used to be SAO but the new arc isn't nearly as entertaining as the beginning so I switched to Mahouka. So far there are only a few LN on my shelf but I've been considering buying The New Gate or Rakuin no Monshou, probably after I buy the new volumes of Mahouka and Mushoku though.

Most of the novels I've been following nowadays have been Chinese and Korean because the TL speed is just faster so I don't have to grind through the raws in order to read them. I just go to novelupdates everyday and read whatever chapters have been updated, works like ISSTH, Full-time Expert, ATG, SYWX, CD, DE have been updating 10x faster than any Japanese novels I've been following. The few Korean novels that are getting translated are also quite interesting to read so that also adds to the variety. I'm really looking forward to more languages and more variety of novels getting translated for us to read.

So many good novels to read!

Hi falcogr so we meet again haha :D

If you are into sword fights and like chinese stuff you should definitely try
1)Kingdom (this one is really good imo)
and 2) Ruler of the land

Here are the other ones i am currently reading :)
3) God of Highschool
4) Tower of God
5) The Gamer
6) Noblesse
7) One Piece
8) Terra for Mars
9) Sun-Ken Rock

Berserk was one of my favorite Manga but unfortunately i don't know where i stopped reading because it was on a huge break some years ago so i don't really know where to start...and i probably forgot a lot of the story too :/ Luckily some new ova movies were produced they were pretty good i just hope they keep them coming.

Wow, you included 4 Xianxia. There has been a big trend for reading chinese works lately. I read all the manga in your top 10 but I prefer the novels over the manhua. They're a lot more comprehensive and include a lot more detail. I can't even compare the soul land manhua with the novels. Original novel>manhua any day.
Some manga/manhua/manhwa that haven't been mentioned by anybody yet (but you may already have read):
Red Storm
Tales of Demons and Gods
Wu Dong Qian Kun
Akumetsu
