Pretty much everything by Liquid Mind, but they're probably more meditative than general chill-out/ambient

I had to mention this. It's pretty chill until the last few minutes where it gets remix-y.

EDIT: Start Rainy Mood and then listen to this.

Track from Jim Guthrie's Sword & Sworcery Soundtrack. Actually the whole soundtrack of this game is moody and awesome at the same time. Check it out!

Okay, back. This list will have music that is longer than half an hour, and at least one song will be over one hour, so look out. Not sure if you'd have time to check them all out, but here are my favourite ambient songs that I find relaxing, among others.

  • Mogwai - Music For A Forgotten Future (The Singing Mountain) - an unusual song from a post-rock band. Pretty neat.
  • Current 93 - The Sound Of Storm Was Spears - original is 35 minutes, I'd recommend that one for the full experience. Another unusual song from one of the creepiest industrial bands (and oh boy, will we have another one of those). A perfect companion for depression, so if you get emotional from songs and are not depressed, you should probably stay away from it.
  • Aidan Baker - The Sea Swells A Bit - very relaxing and intense at the same time; I lack the skills to describe the feeling with words so definitely check this one out.
  • Eluvium - Time Travel Of The Sloth, Parts I, II & III - Erm... Quite elevating, but I fell asleep through it 2 times on a bus and it was fucking amazing. I wish I could find a version that runs through the whole 20+ minutes...
  • Eluvium - Prelude For Time Feelers - so unreal... but this is more elevating than the previous one and it's probably not what you'd call relaxing. A nice little sweet to have between the monoliths I list.
  • Eluvium - Under The Water It Glowed - Okay, now this one is really relaxing. And beautiful.
  • Swans - A Piece Of The Sky - another one of those "elevating" songs. Swans is known about being like, the definite most brutal band in the world, but that doesn't mean they don't have kinda relaxing songs too. This one is tainted with a fair share of sinister sounds, but I just can't get enough of it. Definitely pick this one up.
  • Swans - Live Through Me - kind of faster and shorter than the rest of this list, but it's really beautiful and kind of relaxing.
  • Swans - Animus - it's like ambient with vocals. Reminds me of the Silent Hill soundtracks. Actually, I'd bet Yamaoka is a fan of these guys.
  • Nurse With Wound - Salt - an hour long experience, which sounds like what a lullaby would be if the ocean would sing it before you drown in it. Here's another version, slightly altered, that will make it sound like the same, happening on a shipwreck that is haunted. Whatever you do, DO NOT FALL ASLEEP to this song. I fucking mean it.
  • Nurse With Wound - Funeral Music For Perez Prado - has that melancholic feeling to it, reminding me of a quiet dirge. Got me there, Stapleton. Really beautiful, as opposed to the band's rather disturbing and funny body of work.
  • Dead Can Dance - Devorzhum - again, one with lyrics and vocals. Relaxing enough for me.
  • Pyramids With Nadja - Into The Silent Waves - Despite the vocals this one will sound 100% ambient. It's kind of heavy too, granted it's with Nadja, but has a nice atmosphere to it.
  • Stephen Stapleton & Tony Wakeford - Falling From Heaven - Sounds like exactly what the title reads, don't miss it.
  • SleepResearch_facilty - Nostromo (album) - Perfectly matches the visual ambience of the first Alien film with sound, you should listen to the whole album, not just the first song.
  • Nurse With Wound & Aranosh - Some Magic Powers - Electronic drone meets gypsy folk, this duo is quite the killer.
  • Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Their Helicopters' Sing - A droning and mesmerizing piece from a post-rock orchestra. It has kind of an apocalyptic feel to it, but that's Godspeed for you in a nutshell.
  • Aidan Baker - Eitttlane (Ulver Cover) - So different from the original it deserves to be called a separate work. Very, very pretty.
  • Ulver - Eitttlane - And here's the original to show off. I can't say which one is the better.
  • Corrupted - El Mundo - Baffling that a band like that would release something like this. Their usual albums are ear-destroying death metal, sludge and drone metal mixture, but then every now and then they do wonders like this, and I love them for it.
  • Sunn O))) - Alice - Speaking of drone metal, have some of the loudest ambient ever made. Still relaxing!
  • Sunn O))) Meets Nurse With Wound - Dysnystaxis (Chance Meeting With Somnus) - This one aint metal, nor industrial. It sure as fuck is drone though, and it's amazing. Another one you shouldn't fall asleep to, though.
  • Earth - Crooked Axis For A String Quartet - Simply beautiful.
  • Earth - A Plague Of Angels - When american country music starts to sound like the end of the world... you grow to actually like country music for once.
  • Nadja - Sky Burial - This one is so unlike Nadja, yet so like them. Quite a hypnotizing one, go for it.
  • Boris - Flood - a full album, this might start out as some drone-ish sludge-ish epic metal, but it is kind of ambient and it's very, VERY heavily relaxing near the end.
  • Nadja - Ossification - another unusual Nadja piece, this sounds more like a solo from Aidan Baker. It is perfect if you look at the title. I also wholeheartedly recommend 2 very hard to find songs from them from a version of the album this song is on (Bodycage), which are Autosomal (Version 2) and Autosomal (Version 3). They are hard to track down, but the listening is worth every fourty minutes of those two. Can't believe how many hours I wasted on them...
  • Aphex Twin - Hedphelym - good ole AFX is here with his early IDM and techno ambience. This song is a must, and so is Selected Ambient Works Vol. II. Yes, the whole album.
  • Noveller - Under The Color Cave - simply beautiful, should be your top priority.

Allright, I got carried away a bit. If you like these I can fork out about as many recommendations but if I don't stop now, then I'll be up all night... Hope it helped!

God is an Astronaut has some good stuff, some of it gets a bit post-rocky which might be slightly too heavy to count as soothing, but it tends to be quite atmospheric and it usually builds up slowly when it does get heavier.

Flashbulb is also pretty good, almost always smooth and fairly ambient.
