BTDT. It's fairly common in Chinese restaurants. I personally didn't enjoy the spongy texture, and the tripe itself is pretty flavorless.

I'm Hungarian, I gave eaten tripe before; if the cook made it well, it's really good. However it was not a soup, but a stew, that's more common here.

This is the first time I've seen "pieces of resistance" used like that. Does it count if it's not pronounced in the french-sounding way?
Also, this way it sounds like something that chefs trying to learn Romanian cuisine fail their exams on :D

I don't know about Romanian tripe soup, but mondongo soup here in Honduras (and I think it is regional to at least also the rest of Central America and Mexico) is delicious stuff. As for the tripe itself, it's not too different from some beef rib cuts: really smooth, but has a sort of membrane tying it up together.
Alas, the devil's in the detail. It must be cleaned very well, and while I've always been lucky to have it prepared well, I've heard stories that it tastes awful when not properly washed.

Why is blood soup awful? I´m in czech republic and here soup(polevka) is basis of every meal, I also had many questionable soups, but everyone was delicious :-) I´m in Plzen atm: best soup was Sauerkraut soup with sausage xD

I might have had it when I went there as a kid, but it's been so long that I can't remember. It doesn't sound bad, so I'd certainly try it.

Hahaha, glad to see you've tried it and liked it. We have it differently over here in Asia, but then again Asians are known to eat just about anything. Tripe is a regular thing here used in various cooking, be it soup, curry, etc.
One of my favorite food is "cow soup" which is more or less a clear-ish soup with various parts of a cow in it, tripe included. Other parts include the tongue, meat, heck, even bones at times. There's a pig version too that is everything pig, from meat to tongue to tripe to liver and even including pig blood cubes, haha.

I'm travelling in Romania and Tripe Soup is available everywhere here. So far though I haven't gained the courage to try it. The last "questionable" soup I had was blood soup, in Germany, and it was awful. If you're Romanian, convince me I should (and if possible, recommend a place in Bucharest that serves a good version of it). I'm flying tomorrow morning, so tonight is my last chance.
Update: Had it, and it was good! As the saying goes - No guts No glory :-)
