every giveaway creator should decide on their own. no need to make it any different.

with the new system bots shouldnt be able to join so many giveaways and making it invite only decreases the chance nearly to zero for bots to join a giveaway. we have so many options to choose from and i think it is far more than enough to make it like you want. making a 2 month giveaway is in my opinion not really necessary.

No change. Flash GAs are this - Flash. If you're here - you're in. If you snooze - you lose. Period.

Bots don't snooze, bots don't lose.

Not for his flash GAs they don't.

There's an easy way to do it. It's called key drops, and they typically last as long as 10 seconds.

Flash GA's on Steam were 8 hours though, log in thrice a day, catch all.
Quite different from 24x, 8 of which you'll be asleep.

Not really, remember you've got 16 hours to catch up to that. The only way you would miss out on it was if you actually went to sleep 8.5 hours juuuust before the store update.
This was generally my schedule:

  • Wake up, check the night update before going to school.
  • School, once that's done, check for the update that was in the middle of the day.
  • Evening, 7PM (still Steam store's update time) for the big changes; the daily stuff along with the new flash.

The whole point of making 1-hour giveaways is having great odds for people who are online NOW. We shouldn't prevent people making flash giveaways just because some are afraid of missing out on them. Of course you will miss many of them, that's the point.

I agree. However I think the main argument I've seen against flash GAs (1 hour specifically) is that auto-joiners have an unfair advantage on average over normal users. Personally I don't see it as a big problem. I don't mind that I miss some when I'm asleep. I will see just as many when I'm awake and online. Worrying about missing out on a minuscule increase in odds by entering flash GAs at all times of day is not worth the worry.

Bots will be on at all times. If I make a 24-hour giveaways, I will just have more bots joining in along with more actual users.

Unless all bots happen to have enough points to join in at the exact moment that I post a 1-hour giveaway, a good portion of them will not be able to enter. Making the minimum longer will just allow in more bots by giving them time to regenerate points.

If you want feed to bot users, your choice

Then why do you want to change the rules in a way that it wouldn't be the creator's choice? :\

Increased minimum giveaway duration and some mechanic to disincentivize points farming would reduce the need to regularly check the site for even the most obsessive people.

No one is awake every hour of every day so it is easy to see they are using bot thus suspend and eventually ban them. That way you genuinely get rid of more of those people while leaving the valid uses for anyone who wants.

Maybe we should increase the minimum time at 2 weeks..that way we ensure everybody has a chance to see a giveaway, despite his actual life circumstances, if he was on vacation.... etc.

This is life..i you miss a giveaway, cause you were sleeping the world will not end.

i would make all giveaways last 2 years minimum, since people need time to level up and enter lv10 ones. 👏

good idea, hopefully 2 years is enough time and we also should forbid SG-tools checks..cause equal chances for all cheaters too.

I consider flash giveaways as a reward. If you happen to be on the site when one is posted AND you have the points to enter, congratulations!

When I create a Giveaway I want to set the rules and not someone else.
If I want to do short Flash-GAs I'll do it. If We would increase minimum GA-Time there would be less GAs from me because sometimes I just want to drop something fast.

I would even love to see not even a 1h limit for GAs... public GA, 3Minutes, good Game...

This whole discussion after the new pointsystem is so strange. People complain that they are not able to enter that much GAs anymore but still the chances for each of them grow... And on the other side so many games that got won never get played even for a minute...

Keep it as 1 hour, but have a mandatory captcha for each such GA (only those that last 1 hour). Like this.

Where did I say anything about creating captchas? They should be automatically added to 1 hour GAs as a requirement for anyone who wants to enter.

Captcha should be added for all giveaways, that way it would solve the script problem and there would be no need for the new point system anymore, or at least a less stricter one could take its place. Also I think everyone would get way better winning chances than even now.

You have 1 week to deliver the key. If anyone tries to hasten you, just ignore them. If they do it while also being rude, ask for a new winner.

What's wrong with 1 hour GA's?
Sure, I don't make em but they could be useful in case:

  • someone wants to do a flash giveaway cause they like it
  • You want more data to accurately identify autojoiners.

Wait...did I say that last part out loud...
