It's very playable if you can get past the first race with Lamar. I did yesterday on my first character, but haven't been able to yet with my 2nd one.

I got to play it at a mate's yesterday. It was fun, but no better than other multiplayer games.
Also, the textures that popped-in.... my eyes were bleeding! I was driving on roads that didn't exist until they magically became textured under my wheels.

This doesn't always happen... it tends to happen more the longer the console is turned on. This happened in GTA IV on console and PC as well sometimes more than others.

I had only just turned the game on :-p It updated to allow GTA Online, and I went straight into it. My very first experience of GTAV was my character for Online getting off the plane to a city missing textures.

It works if you can magically get passed the first race with Lamar. Then you don't have issues getting into a Free Roam match since you passed the beginning of the Tutorial.

I just got literally thrown into the world as I made my first character, no intro or anything, but I crashed when I completed a parachuting event. Then my character save was corrupted, and I had to make 2 others just to see the intro and getting stuck when trying to start the race.

I never seen any parachuting event, even when playing all night last night. You can't even unlock buying the parachute till level 10 or something, I think. I have seen character saves disappearing 3 times. Getting stuck at the race is the most common issue.

Well I didn't get a parachute that you could use in the open, but I went into blue circle I think, and the parachute event started, just like in single-player. If that's what you mean is only do-able at level 10, I think it was kinda buggy yesterday :S
