I used to do steamgifts a lot a couple years ago and I remember that the giveaways were full of AAA titles and good games. All I see now are indie games (not even good ones at that) and humble bundles. I'm not complaining. Just wondering what happened especially since there's a couple sales going on for really good games I would have expected to see those on SG.
Maybe there's been rule changes I don't know about or something.

Anyways. Have a good one.

Really? There are tons of good games on site now, I don't even always have enough points to enter all of giveaways. And I'm blacklisted by many people, so there should be actually even more than I see. I don't understand what are you talking about.
But, if you indeed think that there should be more AAA giveaways, I'll tell you what to do - go make some!

I remember the days when there was page after page of nothing but people giving away their bonus copies of The Ship, so it could always be worse.

Just wondering what happened

roughly 3-4x as many bundles/bundlesites these days compared to those days, therefore ~3-4x as many giveaways containing those games

there's a couple sales going on for really good games

there always is, and some people may very well of purchased them to giveaway.. but it doesn't mean they have to create the giveaway instantly for it.. or they may very well have and made it private in a train, or in a private group, or maybe even public but just above your level.

Anyways. Have a good one.

you too! =)

I think there are a lot more people now that use the site to farm cards from the games they win, or just add games to their 1000+ game collections, and then there are those who trade/sell games they win. Or perhaps people are simply more aware of it now. Which doesn't really encourage giving away quality games. Monetization of the site basically, it's all about the money.

Where's the new profile pic from?

It's a custom avatar I made from the box art of my favorite game "Strife: Quest for the Sigil". Sadly it seems to be misaligned even though I thought I centered the image, I still need to fix it. If you're wondering what it is, it's the Sigil (an alien weapon).

Ok. Cool. I thought it might have been the logo of some band or something, since it looks like it'd fit in an album cover.
The alignment error is barely noticeable.

Apparently the imagine was near perfect centered. I removed a 1 pixel line so now it's perfectly aligned, must be some kind of optical illusion making me think it's misaligned. Strife for life!

Probably, since it's on the side of the page and the shadows in the image are not symmetric it can seem like it;s closer to the left than it really is.

Yeah, I realize now it's the lighting that's asymmetrical, making it appear off-center. Haha, yeah I'm quite anal about symmetry :p

How about leveling up a bit first? Most AAA giveaways are high-level, or group/whitelist ones.

Also, it's somewhat odd to complain about bundle crap when that's all you've given away...

In my opinion, SG Gifts got a bit too popular. Gaining points to enter GAs is insanely easy (too easy). Any time I log on, i'm totally maxed out on points. Didn't used to be that way. It became about getting and less about giving. Which speaks to the quality of giveaways. I remember having a lot of fun with giveaways, and quizzes and commenting on GAs. Now, it seems more impersonal. More like "I buy bundles, and this is the crap i have doubles of, so i'll give it away". So, now people enter giveaways for nearly everything, and not just games they "Want", because they want to use up their points. That's turned a lot of the site into what it is now, which imo is greedy folks looking for free things. So many giving things away are best summed up as people wanting CV value so that they themselves can enter more giveaways, for better chances.

To speak on these things is heresy of course. It's like this site has turned into fanboyism. People will defend to the point of absolute absurdity.

To those giving things away and trying to be part of a community, bravo. It's truly a good thing, and a lot of fun to connect with people like that. I think most of us know however, that most of these giveaways have little to do with altruism and humble acceptance and appreciation for peoples gifts. IT used to be that people entered to get games they really wanted. That the worst thing you could do is not say "Thank you" at the very least in a GA comment. I miss those days. A great community still resides here, but I stopped trying to be a part of it years ago. The infectious negativity was too much. "Fan Boys" (using it as a nebulous term, not just boys), have kind of ruined it in my opinion.
