How do you deal with your backlog?

i understood the 'play more than one game at the same time' as actually playing it simultaneously.

which depending on the game, usually rpgs and does with auto battle features XD then you can literally play 2 games at the same time XD

I always focus on one game at a time. I prefer to play a long/hardcore/stressful etc game and then binge play 2-3 short/easygoing ones. After the binging ends I start another long/hardcore game. Although I ran out of short games so it's generally long game after long game now. I only change my schedule if the game I'm currently playing is something I really end up hating (which only rarely happens) or if I happen to come by a game I'm highly anticipating.

I know this may sound crazy, but I play games in the order I buy them (or receive them in the case of won games). That way, it's not like I'm intentionally putting off a certain game for some nebulous reason.

What backlog? I don't see any backlog at all, just a few hundred of games I bought to decorate my library. :P

Seriously, though, I am planning to try some of my wins here simulteneously with playing an anime game or two.

I don't mind having games in my library I haven't completed. I do mind having games I've never even tried, because there's little point to getting more games if you don't even have the time to play the ones you have. (Well, not to me at least. I'm not a collector for the sake of collecting.) I strive to give every game I have at least half an hour. After that, I know if I'm at least interested in ever picking it up again, if and when the mood strikes me.

So my backlog is defined as just "everything I haven't even tried yet" (minus sequels I won't play anyway until I've played the earlier installments), not "everything I haven't completed", since I'm pretty sure I'm never going to complete everything I have in my lifetime. The order for working on it is random/whatever, since with 30 minutes of time, they're all equal.

There are currently 13 games on the backlog, which is a little high. I might tick off a few in the weekend. Or I might just play a bunch of XCOM again. :-)

How do you deal with your backlog?

First I pick 10 games that were on my wishlist that I got through bundles.
Then I pick a few games that I recently purchased outside of bundles.
Then I go through my wins and pick a few that I'm currently in the mood to play.
Then I look at the games I already have downloaded on my pc.
Then I drop to the floor, take the fetal position and cry for 30 minutes.

Once done, I just pick one at random.

If I don't finish a game, it means the game is not good enough and not worth my time. Simple as that. And I'm very selective when it comes to which game I'm going to buy/play/enter to win.

I've tried to go for the shorter titles first so I'd see the backlog getting shorter fast, and the progress would motivate me more. If my backlog would only have few longer games instead of a wide selection of all sorts, then it might be less overwhelming to look at. I do try to hop to longer ones from time to time if I have any resources to get invested in them, since I'm seriously trying to push myself to take care of the backlog that I neglected for so long.

I always have about 3 or so that I play at the same time, and it works well.

1 visual novel/point & click
1 action (can be anything from hack and slash to platformer)
1 RPG or strategy game

That way I always have something I can fall back on depending on my mood (and also taking my physical issues into account, sometimes my hands just hurt too much to play an action game). It also helps if I'm playing a really really long game that can take dozens of hours to beat, because I still play shorter games while I'm working on it.

But I wouldn't say, start 2 different VNs or 4x games at the same time.

The answer is easy: I don't.

i split up my steam library into categories:

1st into a category on how good i think the game will be, before having played it:

Awesome? - it looks like a really awesome game
Mediocre? - it looks okay but not awesome
Bad? - it has a review score below 70%

When i decide to play a game i add it to my favourites(often having a max of 4 games in favourites),
if i decide to stop playing a game before I've completed it, i'll put it in my paused category and restart it eventually.

When I've completed a game, i remove it from favourites and all categories attached to it, then i add a category to signify I've completed it:

Completely Awesome - i really enjoyed it and might replay it in the future
Complete - i got some enjoyment but it was awesome
hidden - this game was terrible, hide it plz

using these categories i can work through my backlog and make a note of which games i have yet to play and which ones i have completed

note: favourites and hidden are categories that are already in-built to steam

I don't like calling it backlog.
They are your games, play them don't play them.
It's a form of entertainment, as long as you are having fun you are doing it right.

I tend to have one game in each of my categories at a time, and look at switching them out every month.

1. Current MMO
2. Current Multiplayer
3. Current FPS
4. Current Adventure/Miscellaneous
5. Current Relaxation

I also try to make sure that one or two of those are "shorter" games so that I can complete at least one a month. I give SG wins priority over other stuff.

I drink to forget my backlog.

I try to mix a few small/quick games in between longer games. Long story based games, especially RPGs, I like to stay dedicated to and not play anything else so I don't forget something. Sometimes for really long games, I will find a place to take a break and play a few quick games so I don't burn myself out playing one game.

I just play what I feel like playing, it doesn't really work as a way to mow down my backlog but... yeah it doesn't work.
