As everywhere, cost depends on your preferences, but it is usually much cheaper than west European countries... Cheaper hotels should be around 15-20 euros per night, and in many parts you can find nice private villas accommodations for about 8e per night...
Even cheaper is to rent whole house in some rural areas if you have a group to go with, or hostels in larger towns... You can find more on Booking.com, probably :)
As for the food... Fast food in Belgrade (the most expensive town) is about 2-3e for one meal, inexpensive restaurants are about 5e per meal.
Generally, Serbs are great hosts, and are very hospitable no matter where you come from; be it USA (that bombed us barely 15 years ago), Croatia (we were in war 20 years ago) or Romania (Neighbour country that was always friendly with us :)), but there are of course rare and small individual incidents... Anyway, you, as an Indian, should feel completely safe... :) I recommend you to read more about it on the internet, just to be sure...

Hello! And welcome to Serbia... Trains in Serbia are extremeLy slow, so for every station I prePared a few interesting words and images related to historiCal and natural monuments in my country. Feel free NOT to read them if they are not your cup of tea, of course, but if you find them enjoyable, I hope you will find time to visit them :) At leAst through more research on Wiki or something...
Train is a little bit hidden, but I guess you won't have problem finding it anyway...
Welcome aboard and enjoy your ride! :)
