Alcohol nearly destroyed my life, literally. It's refreshing and I am glad you feel the way you do about the stuff. It's more volatile and dangerous than most of the illegal drugs they have in this country (USA), and causes far more deaths to people that use (more than all the illegal "scheduled" stuff put together), not to mention the property damage and innocent lives that are affected by what a raging alcoholic can leave in their wake of destruction.
Anyway, have a really nice time if you can manage! Lots of better stuff to do out there sober any day. I missed all that when I was in a haze of intoxication... I still enjoy kava though as an alternative; helps my general anxiety with no really bad side effects by comparison.

Anyway, you shouldn't come during the first day, most of the shops aren't open because we're busy visiting our relatives. If you want to experience the new year atmosphere, a week or two before would be the best. And you can visit Chinatown then, or Orchard Road even (:

Last year I visit singapore when it's almost chinese new year
I saw so many thing already decorated with chinese-thingy so the atmosphere will be like in China.. Maybe? Somehow? :P

Yup, I'm Singaporean Chinese, my great grandparents were from China (or so I heard). Never visited China during CNY though, but I'm sure it'll be quite different - I mean, they have 15 days of holiday! We only get 2 D:
After... there's nothing much already :P Even though technically CNY lasts for 15 days, but everyone has to go back to work and school so it goes back to normal really fast.

I'll be turning 21 in a week or so (13th Feb). 21st birthdays are supposed to have crazy parties and lots of alcohol, but I like neither of them. (Don't try to change my view about alcohol - others have tried and failed.) My ideal birthday is a peaceful day at home, where no one can get me to do things I don't want to. (I mean, it's my day, you gotta play by my rules! :P) Of course, things never turn out the way I want them to.
Every year many of my relatives come to my house for our annual Lunar New Year celebrations (read: steamboat and chill-out session), usually it'll be on New Year's Day (8th Feb), but because of various reasons we're having it on my birthday, only because it's the first Saturday of the new year. Which sucks for me because I'm stuck having to entertain everyone and leaves me for no time to myself. :/ On the plus side, hopefully I can get more red packets :P
Anyway, I promised cats! But before I give you the goodies I need to know you feel that same way as me about cats. Check here.
