If you live in a country with a voting system and you are of legal age .... go vote.

Yes. This, a million times. Be a responsible person instead of crying "nobody cares about me!".

Problem is there is rarely a "Reopen Nominations" vote for when you just don't have faith in the current candidates.

That's very stupid (and communist) way of thinking. 90% of people have absolutly no idea about politics. In a healthy system the voter turnout mustn't be higher than 25%.

Communists don't vote for their leaders. The party does.

Err, that's pretty much the same in most political systems, nothing to do with Communism. Each party votes for their leaders rather than the constituents.

Voting for local and state does make a difference because some local and state representative are fighting against federal tyrany. Voting for the president doesn't matter much since both sides are already chosen and taking orders from same people. Some states are passing good laws like constitutional carry, legalizing marijuana, enforcing deportations, fighting against obamacare, getting rid of fluoride in the water. I live in TN and they just changed the law on July 1st to make it legal for anyone to have a loaded gun in a vehicle. They also legalized auto knives and carrying blades over 4 inches on the same day. Local and state representatives can make a difference, they have more power than the federal government.

I was about to point it out.

Do you still can vote like "oops, my bad, I accidentaly /whatever making the vote invalid/, see ya in 5 years" though?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes...

Whenever i see that none of those there represent me, i invalidate my vote.
But the catch is, that doesn't mean anything anymore, not even statistics, 'couse normally those statistics are overlooked by all the parts involved. A long time ago we had a law that if any election had more than 51% of invalid votes, everything had to be remade, with new candidates and all.

How i wish we had that back...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm starting to think I know where you're from...
If I'm right, there's still this law about remaking the election (with new candidates) if invalid votes pass 50%.
But the thing is, votes that are declared invalid BY the Electoral Court. Not votes the voters invalidated.
So, just the cheated votes and contested candidate elections.

Not to mention that A LOT of people that wouldn't vote, since they're forced to go vote, will vote in anyone,
instead of invalidating or getting to know the candidates platforms to choose. They'll just "Whatever, I liked the jingles." or "I'll vote for him because he's handsome."
By the way, the remarks are true. I'he heard the second one in person. In more than one election. :(

Actually research shows in countries that are forced to vote, people care a bit more, for example if you're forced into jury duty, you're going to be paying attention, even if you don't want to be there. Granted, I still think people would vote for whatever, but I'd like to think people would at least check up on what they say they're going to do.

Not voting this voting seasons all candidates from both parties do not represent the working class or me. They all belong to the rich companies and don't know how it is to live with a tight budget. Even in the local elections for the sheriff, I don't trust them since a neighboring city voted for a sheriff that did not even have the training to be a cop. How stupid is that? In my area, mayors are not voted for but hired by a board of commissioners.

I always get a kick out of the "no one represents me and they are all crooked" gripes.
That will never change so long as people keeping failing to vote for that very reason. If there is one thing you can no for certain about any politician, it is that they don't change unless they are forced to do so. When you just complain and do nothing they think it means the status quo is acceptable.

Problem is with a situation where people are apathetic with all parties. As I stated earlier there is never really a "Reopen Nominations" vote where people can just say "Know what? I don't like any of you and don't want any of you in!"

Keep forcing them to recycle Politicians so nobody gets in then they will start to get the message.

yes the "i don't like any of you" should be a valid choice.you can't just vote someone for the sake of it. it's the most anti-democracy thing to do. voting for the "lesser evil" is wrong, damn it.

oh right, because if don't want to choose between the populist fuck that would say anything to get a vote, and the incompetent shit that is not able to rule his own body, i'm an anarchist.
that's how democracy works right? or you are with me, or you are wrong in every possible way and you want to destroy everything. (well, at least that is how it works in my country)

If you want to dismiss all politics ("i don't like any of you") from your country that means that you create empty space in government. When there will be no one then who will take responsibilities/duties? People living in country. They will try to control everything by themselves which leads to very first steps of anarchy.

Even if you don't want to dismiss them by the meaning of this word, you states that none of them should be in governing party. "When the cat's away, the mice will play."

Comment has been collapsed.

Re-Open Nominations (R.O.N.) Does not dismiss politics, quite the contrary. It is a far more democratic process and allows voters to request a reelection if they are not satisfied with the election. In short all parties will have to submit new nominees and in a situation where voters are not satisfied with the parties, they will (idealistically) take time to think why the voters are voting such a way and (hopefully) adjust their policies in a way that will make the electorate happy.

That's the idea anyway.

People aren't fit to lead themselves, but we have no angels to lead us in our stead. Who should have that job then? I don't like to bitch about something without having an alternative to suggest but in this case I have no clue what to suggest. Nobody who gets into office will do anything but make themselves happy. That's great for other people who agree with them or benefit from their policies, but what about everybody else? Everyone is convinced that their way is the best way, but with so many differing views everyone can't be right so....eh, you know what? Fuck it. That's how that conversation always ends for me, with "Fuck it."

Well what if both candidates that are running are both clowns to the big money and are not representing the values of what I believe in? What then? Who can I vote? The other local candidates are no better, they are talking about policies for the locale that will only benefit a portion of the community but not the rest. I can't even vote for the mayor of my town because of how it is run. The mayor is not voted but hired from a board of commissioners that are voted in the next election. Both parties are forcing the status quo to stay, how can we change the status quo when those who are running are not trying to change the status quo but to only benefit their party?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's true and all that, but if about 25% of the candidates run unopposed there's not much to vote for, right?
You're totally right when it comes to systems with multiple parties, but if you only have 2 parties and 1 doesn't even bother to run in your district there isn't much to vote for.

Why... In USA (and few other countries) is electronical voting system. You can make a winner anyone you want if you have the power and nobody will ever know... On the world is no easier way how to manipulate with votes without witnesses as this one. Winner is already chosen. :)
