Well, with chicken you place them on the ground body to the left and beak pointing to the right, then take a stick/branch/whatever and sweep the ground around an inch from the beak going outwards (away from the chicken). Do it 2 or 3 times and the chicken will be under hypnosis. It won't move until you clap your hands.
