Are you in a Daedalic State of Mind?

View Results
[Tier 1] One dollar money Rain – worth it.
[BTA] Bought this unaware that The Great Perhaps is 75% off on Steam anyway.
[Tier 3] It's the Suicide of my July budget.
[Have] Memories Of Old Bundles, nothing more.
[Skip] Daedalic will put their T3 goods at 90% off before soon, I can wait.

T3 has some okay stuff, BTA is pretty pointless.
Maybe a good bundle for people who aren't Daedalic-swamped yet from previous deals 'n' bundles?

I don't get how Daedalic is doing business, with their games ending up in bundles three months after release.
And neither Iratus nor Iron Danger are bad games.

Not every publisher is solely a bastion of greed, even if economic logic might suggest it.
They even tried to keep the regional prices equal to a dollar (within 1-2%), something I have not seen in the weeks Humble has featured these.

One of the games in this bundle, A Year Of Rain, caused huge losses for them.
And if they continue doing business decision such as this bundle, they really won't last much longer.

They probably have a loyal and sizable enough audience that buys their stuff on launch, possibly German-speaking middle-aged guys.

They know that it is very rare for a gamer to buy all games of a particular developer with so many game . By selling bundles at the price of single game title buyers, they are encouraging buyers to try more games and hence earn more reviews.

Also, with such high taxation imposed by world governments without any contribution in creation of a work or making compensation in case of losses occur, the indie game developers, indie software developers, indie authors and indie film makers hardly earn anything.

In the beginning, every indie content creator works for money, but when you realize that it is impossible to even recover the expenses of due bills, you start working for appreciation.

Everything you work for ends up in the pockets of the governments (because of the artificial 'pyramid scheme' of the world governments), so why not give the consumers most bang for the buck.

Congratulations!
You made a perfect job of presenting a text that seems reasonable and professional at first glance, but while actually reading it you discover that pretty much everything is either irrelevant, wrong or illogical. Not to mention that nice conspirational touch about "world governments".

Thanks for your kind words!

Anyways, I am open to your insights if you have better a reasoning.

You have called my comment "irrelevant, wrong or illogical". Would you kindly care to explain?

Anyhow before you do, please don't forget to read your original comment.

I don't get how Daedalic is doing business

As far as I can perceive, when you are talking about an entity doing business, you need to see the earnings, the expenditures, winning the loyalty of customers and the finally taxes to be paid . There is no "conspirational touch" about it.

They know that it is very rare for a gamer to buy all games of a particular developer with so many game . By selling bundles at the price of single game title buyers, they are encouraging buyers to try more games and hence earn more reviews.

The number of reviews is irrelevant if a publisher becomes known for bundling away all games after few months.

Also, with such high taxation imposed by world governments without any contribution in creation of a work or making compensation in case of losses occur, the indie game developers, indie software developers, indie authors and indie film makers hardly earn anything.

  1. Taxes aren't so high that "hardly anything is left".
  2. Taxes aren't the same all over the world. Governments actually compete in that regard.
  3. Those with higher taxes actually DO contribute and support creative arts, including game development.

In the beginning, every indie content creator works for money, but when you realize that it is impossible to even recover the expenses of due bills, you start working for appreciation.

If at all, it's actually the opposite. And if they fail, they usually quit the industry.

Everything you work for ends up in the pockets of the governments (because of the artificial 'pyramid scheme' of the world governments), so why not give the consumers most bang for the buck.

That's not even true for "communist" states, such as Cuba. And tax heavy Europe ends up with 45-55%, not 100%.

And yeah, posting nonsense while using labels such as "world governments" is giving your contribution a conspirational touch. "Pyramid scheme" ... 🙄

Thanks again for your input.

The number of reviews is irrelevant if a publisher becomes known for bundling away all games after few months.

You misinterpret the term "more reviews". More reviews means more appreciation and not more sale/profits.

  1. Taxes aren't so high that "hardly anything is left"

Actually "it is" if you consider the manufacturing cost of a quality game (including replacing the old hardware, electricity bills, and other bills during the work hours). Yep, for most indies (even for small/ average studios) there is hardly anything left.

  1. Taxes aren't the same all over the world. Governments actually compete in that regard.

Well, it is nothing to feel proud about. Still, they are more than enough in every country, if you consider that they are receiving lion's share in something they made no contribution in.

  1. Those with higher taxes actually DO contribute and support creative arts, including game development.

Okay. how much contributions do government make towards development of the indie projects. If governments really did anything for indies, there wouldn't be any need for kickstarter or patreon. Unless you have a political affiliation personally, you can forget any financial backing for anything.

If at all, it's actually the opposite. And if they fail, they usually quit the industry.

Actually, most people working for profits usually quit an industry when they have earned enough dough and there is no more possibility of dough to be earned. Nonetheless, unlike what most people think, most people belonging to the creative class do the things they are best at, rather than the things from which they can earn most profits. If everybody worked for profits, you wouldn't have open source software or sites like archive and Wikipedia.

That's not even true for "communist" states, such as Cuba. And tax heavy Europe ends up with 45-55%, not 100%.

You seem very pleased that some entity takes 45-55% of your earnings without doing anything. You forget you purchase stuff too and pay tax for that too. If you total that and compare that with the return you finally receive from your work hours, you will realize that you are actually working under losses and not profits.

And yeah, posting nonsense while using labels such as "world governments" is giving your contribution a conspirational touch. "Pyramid scheme"

Actually I was being generous (and primarily brief although intentionally slightly inaccurate) when I called the mechanism of world governments a pyramid scheme. It is far worse if you compare the modus operandi of governments and that of a pyramid scheme.

Let's begin, shall we:

  1. In case of pyramid scheme a person sits at top of the pyramid and recruits 10 second-tier people to the level directly below him, where each newbie must issue him a cash payment for the privilege of joining. Your place in a particular pyramid is determined simply from the fact that how early did you join the pyramid. While in case of governments (democratically elected) you have to pay taxes even when you don't get privilege of joining the government. You are only entitled to choose the group of people who tax you and such elected representatives can increase taxes as they deems fit. Only heirs/ relatives of people who already had been the part of the government or some extremely influential folks, become next batch of elected representatives.
  2. In pyramid scheme each member of second-tier people bring in 10 more people and each of them must pay fees to the two tier members and these two tier people send a percent to the person sitting at the top. While there is no requirement of making members in the governments, even those people who don't vote for the said elected representatives are required to pay the taxes to the said group.
  3. In pyramid scheme loss which occurs to the lower tier is one time only whereas in case of governments it is cumulative.
  4. People have option to decline the pyramid scheme and they are through with it. While even if you refuse to vote, you will be taxed.

Now the Big Question: why a pyramid scheme collapses while the governments don't?

  1. Pyramid scheme requires you to pay upfront cost for membership while governments tax you when you have earned something. It is easy to steal from people if they have something rather than when they don't.
  2. In pyramid scheme when people pay a particular sum, they are done with it and the relationship ends. While governments keep draining you of your resources whether you buy stuff or sell it (you have no escape).
  3. Relationship between the person on top tier of the pyramid and that of the people in lower tiers is that of a virus and a host (When the virus affects each cell of the body, the person dies i.e., the system fails) Relationship between the governments and the people is like that of a parasite and a host (you have enough food to be alive but not enough for you to be healthy).

Iron Danger and Iratus aren't developed by them, they just publish those two games. AER Memories of Old, The Great Perhaps, CryoFall and The Suicide of Rachel Foster are the other ones in this bundle that Daedalic are just the publishers.

I'm quite undecided. I would really like to try State of Mind, though I know it's a quite common game and I am REALLY intrigued by The Suicide of Rachel Foster, a good friend of mine loved it and I'm usually close to his taste. How much strategy is in the other games, like Iratus or Iron Danger? I might try for a Bundle Split if there's a lot - I simply can't stand strategy games ^ ^'. Else, I guess I'll go T3. Any feedback will be appreciated. =)

BUT for me T2 is pointless as i have all games from T2. Will buy T1 and will think about Iratius in T3 :).

It is nothing or all kind of bundle ;). Also noticed 1 free monthly buy... but of course for new subscribers. We will see more banned account soon :). Dont like this temptation to break rules from HB. Will not make new account, but I guess many will.

Humble Lootboy Bundle?

So Pillars of the Earth is an absolutely fantastic game that I'm recommending everyone to play, but it doesn't belong in a 15$ tier. I have gotten AER, The Great Perhaps and State of Mind from Lootboy: the first I gave away from lack of interest, the second is a pretty bad game and the third is also pretty underwhelming. And, minus Rachel Foster, I'm not at all interested in the rest of the games here. Those are my thoughts anyway.

For my curiosity I checked a few bundles.

Game bundles:
The July 7 and July 14 Steam bundles still use 1USD=1EUR. ❌❌

Non-games:
July 13: /books/programming-for-makers-make-co-books - 0.89 EUR T1, but rounded numbers afterwards ❌

July 16 : /books/pathfinder-second-edition-paizo-inc-books - rounded numbers ❌❌

July 20: /books/raspberry-pi-raspberry-pi-press-books - 0.88 EUR in T1, but rounded numbers afterwards ❌

USD EUR GBP CAD AUD NZD TRY RUB PHP
Tier 1 1 0.88 0.79 1.35 1.43 1.52 6.86 71.29 49.52
in USD* $1 $1.02 $1 $1.01 $1.03 $1.02 $1 $1.01 $1
Tier 2 8 7 6.5 11 11.5 12 55 550 400
in USD* $8 $8.1 $8.26 $8.2 $8.25 $8.02 $8.03 $7.77 $8.11
Tier 3 15 13.5 12 20.5 21.5 23 105 1050 750
in USD* $15 $15.63 $15.25 $15.27 $15.42 $15.37 $15.33 $14.83 $15.2

July 22: /software/javascript-web-development-software - this one uses 0.86 EUR T1, 21.59 EUR T3, so it's fair ✅
July 22: /books/incal-and-more-humanoids-books - same! ✅
It seems only these two (chart below is for the first) are as nicely priced as the Daedalic.
They're also noteworthy for pricing in Chinese yuan, I guess.

USD EUR GBP CAD AUD NZD TRY RUB PHP CNY
Tier 1 1 0.86 0.78 1.34 1.39 1.49 6.84 70.78 49.32 6.99
in USD* $1 $1 $0.99 $1 $1 $1 $1 $1 $1 $1
Tier 3 25 21.59 19.67 33.55 34.84 37.41 171.22 1769.7 1233.15 174.89
in USD* $25 $25 $24.99 $25 $24.99 $25 $25 $25 $25 $25

Anyway, we should keep an eye on that for the next game bundle, especially the next AAA publisher one. Let's hope prices stay fair, then such price charts won't even be useful to anyone (making for more concise threads).
