I'm able to get it pretty easily. It's just that I get really frustrated at some of those really hard games. Is it worth it then? Thanks for reading. EDIT: I'm amazed at all the reactions from you guys. Thanks. It seems that the comments are very mixed, so I still don't know. I think I will try getting humble indie bundle V or wait for a new one with super meat boy. I'll keep the thread open for further discussion.

I found that SMB keeps the frustration managable for 2 reasons:

  1. Most levels don't use hidden traps/leaps of fate. Leaps of fate are used to hide some bandages/warp zones but those typically can be scouted out from elsewhere in the level and there's no such things as fake floors or walls that crumble when they don't look like crumbling walls.

  2. Most levels are very short, with goal times set below half a minute. So when you go SPLAT once again you don't lose much.

I've yet to see a main level (either light or dark world versions) that breaks these rules; the exceptions are found in the unlockable warp zone/minus world levels.

Note: I also didn't get beyond chapter 5 before I lost my save game, but getting back to the game recently I found I could clear most of the first 3 worlds with A+ grades on the light side.

First, if you don't have a controller, don't even think about it. The keyboard controls suck. Second, you said you get frustrated easily. This game will make you more angry then you have been in your life. Be prepared to break things.

not true, finished it with keyboard.

never tried with controller, true, but that doesn't mean keyboard sucks :P

You can finish the game with keyboard. But it still sucks, controller is much better for this game.

I've been playing it with keyboard and it's easy to play with keyboard maybe you're used to play only with a controller and never tried to use keyboard.

The game might be frustrating, but at reasonable level. There's no cheap stuff like enemy from nowhere or leap of faith. It's a fair game - it's your fault when you fail.
In my case, normal stages didn't frustrate me that much. Warps did frustrate me though.

Also, satisfaction after beating a hard stage is incredible.

Yep, cheap deaths are the only thing that frustrate me too. SMB is frustrating in a way, like Bit Trip Runner, but whenever I fail I know it's because I fucked up. As you say, the satisfaction/relief when you beat a stage you've spent a long time and many deaths on.

I've heard that from reviews as well. I'm just not sure. Thanks though :)

If you can get it cheap yeah it's fun. You'll beat the first few levels alright and when it gets too hard you can stop. It's very very satisfying when you complete a level. Watching all your gameplays at once is something.. unique.

Cheap is the key. WHen you're not financially invested in it. It can be a fun game to dick around in.. die a few hundred times for kicks (because refresh is very fast) and then if you happen to get to the end... oh man will it look fun.

Now there's a game you should definitely stay away from if you get frustrated easily. Yeah, this is what Super Meat Boy grew from but the controls are utter crap, making the flash version unnecessarily difficult.

I played the original meat boy on the basement collection. I didn't like it. I know super meat boy is not the same, so that's why I asked everyone if it's a good idea to get it.

OP, here's what I think. In SMB there are two worlds... the light world and the dark world. The light world isn't too bad, but the dark world is difficult. Plus there are bandage collectables that let you unlock new characters. If you're a completionist who requires yourself to get everything, then I'd stay away. If you're okay with skipping the dark world if it gets too hard, then I'd recommend the game. Keep in mind that the dark world is half the game, though. That being said, if I were you I'd just try to find a copy of the HiB4

No. Stay away from it. I gave up on it and unistalled it in less than half an hour.

Also, the game sucks. There's nothing in it beyond the fake challenge. Fake, because the controls are terrible.

If you want to see what it's like, look up Meat Boy on Kongregate, it's the prototype for SMB and is free.

Not sure if serious. Entitled to own opinion, but would highly disagree. Controls are perfect and responsive. The challenge isn't fake, you clearly see the level laid out before you. There is not one thing unfair about the game at all.

Controls are nowhere near perfect or responsive. Meat Boy routinely failed to jump when instructed, or in the direction instructed. Add to that the acceleration mechanic and all chance of precision is eliminated.
