Personally, It depends on the character of the user If he follows the rules or not, there is not really much you can do about it, except reporting

I don't see the sense of giveaways if you just let them give it away, trade it and that stuff.

I no longer check up on people, I'm too lazy. If that rule wasn't around though, I wouldn't make any giveaways here. I just sort of expect people to follow it and others to police it for me :p

if you don't want the game then why enter the giveaway in the first place?

I don't check up myself, and just rely on the system to notice if someone breaks the rule...

I could live with passing it along to a friend but I would be annoyed if they actually sell it... Also, having an endless circle of GAs for a bad game that just gets won and then given away again sound really annoying.

Finally you would get groups of stat pushers that just made private/group GAs for each other without ever passing anything along

I personally would only mind if people would trade games they won here, but in general I agree with the "win the game for yourself and only enter giveaways you'd actually like to win" consensus of this site. Allowing people to do what they want with the games would just lead to people only creating group/private giveaways.

I find it kind of rude to be honest, I mean I've gifted some games that I don't even have that are on my wishlist. If someone doesn't actually want the game they shouldn't roll for it to begin with. It ruins the chances for people who actually want the game. I mean lets say someone gets you a thoughtful gift for Christmas is it then okay to just re-gift it the second that person looks away?

Who cares? People who enter and really wanted to play the game, I guess. Ever thought of that?
Having said that, I never checked if any of my winners activated their gifts. I suppose I believe in good will.

The rules is the rules. If you don't like it - there is sites on which you can do what you want with your prize. So, let steamgifts be steamgifts, and chose wisely - if you don't like it, find the one you really like.

i don't care what he does with it (play, farm for cards or just nothing) but rules are rules... don't agree to the rules? go elsewhere.

Of course they shouldn't do what they want with it. It basically tells people that there's nothing wrong with using alt accounts to improve their chances at winning giveaways. It completely goes against the site rules and disregards common courtesy.

I did check backgrounds of all my public and puzzle GAs winers and then re-checked if they activated won games ;p I'm a burdensome bastard like that ;p As I do a lot of GAs in my private groups I generally know people in those and trust them so don't check every GA, but everytime a new winner I don't recognize wins I also do a background check ;p

It's a good rule imo, discourages people from entering giveaways for games they don't want.

The problem is if you remove the rule, people (and bots) will just enter everything with no recourse. The system seems to work at the moment, there's no reason to break it.

The lesson here is: if you don't want it, don't enter. Everybody wins.

Well, I made a few giveaways in my time here, and will probably make more, I really do not care what my winners do with the games. I did my job by creating the giveaway, making the site's heart beat longer, the winner can do whatever he/she wants to do with the game, and I do not check if they have activated/played.gave away the game, just check that you have received the game, so I don't get in troubles.

How do you check for giveaway fraud then? A group of friends can just make giveaways for each other, but not actually give the game. Then the "winner" just says that he "traded away" the game. Tada! Get to Level 10 in no time.

I would find it very disrespectful if a winner would regift or trade a game I gave away here... But would that person even be suspended/banned if reported? Mods seem to be drowning in tickets so I doubt that anything would happen. I guess blacklisting those people would be more effective in a way.

Personally, If you have no intention of keeping or playing the game upon winning, then please spare yourself the points taken and my time gifting the game and let someone who actually WANTS the game to have a chance. If your intention is to trade, then please buy your own damn copy to trade with, don't take mine freely from a giveaway and use it for your trading purposes.

That's all I have to say about people who do that sort of thing. No point in spamming giveaways when you don't even want to redeem the game. :/

The rules about regifting and the like help establish accountability in giveaways among all parties, and helps ensure the product is both redeemed and used by the right person. Repealing these rules would lead to total chaos as an influx of giveaways for dubious links and keys from second- and third-hand purchases flood in. There will be even less certainty about whether a giveaway's gift is valid, and it will convolute who is accountable for the giveaway being fake.

Making a giveaway is like standing up in front of the crowd and shouting, "Who wants this game?!" The entire point of the giveaway is to give it away to someone who wants it. That purpose is defeated when the winner has no intention of using the game himself.

This is totally different from handing a gift to a specific individual. In such a case, you are gifting the person because you want him or her to receive something from you, whether that gift is wanted or not. Once the gift is given, it belongs to the recipient and he or she may do whatever he or she wants with it.

Considering that there's not a lot I can do TO the winner, I'm abstaining from voting because I try not to get worked up over stuff I can't control...that being said though, I had it happen to me that someone won my GA on the old SG and gave it away without leaving feedback of any kind...I didn't realise at first that he/she had given the link away and it had then been activated so I made a GA with the same link...and that winner obviously got a used link...so really, I don't give a fuck what anyone does if they win my GAs as long as they leave positive feedback for a legit key OR contact me (as has happened 3 times now - twice because of Galagiveaways) if the key is dead...I'd LIKE for my winners to use the key themselves and actually play the game, but eh, can't stop them fucking me over really...
