I'm a bit behind on the times, so sorry in advance.

I've heard of it many times, of course, but never looked into at all. I've only just stumbled across this page and it looks freaking awesome!

Anyone care to fill me in on the benefits? I know the "consumer version" isn't out yet, but when it is, what's the benefit of buying one if I've got a PC?

not much yet unless you're a developper, there are no games that support it yet except for some cautious attempts. A year or two from now It'll be groundbreaking perhaps but so far there's no reason to buy it.

Maybe I'm wrong but if someone doesn't agree please let your constructive criticism speak

edit : have a look on Youtube, there are tests out there. I figure that's something you have to test by yourself if you ever stumble across an occasion to do so.

For now, there's no real benefits of having one cause there's little, if not none, developed for it.

Yeah, Wikipedia suggests the only games that are actually currently released for it are TF2 & Outerra Anteworld, whatever that is.

I've read that Unreal Engine 4 is going to support it from the start. So I would expect it to be in more games.

I personally want to use it for Dinner Date.

It's not so popular now but in the next 3 years will be huge and will compete with other gaming devices.

Saw a video of people testing it at EVE FanFest. Looked really funny (for peoplewatching ;)).

It looks really cool, I had watched some videos about it but never actually read info about it.
It will be great in some years, after it gets better graphics and support more games

A coworker has a developer's kit and he showed me some demos. It really is quite the thing, problem is it's hard to convey in words, you really have to experience it for yourself. There was a roller coaster demo that had me at the edge of my seat, as well as optimised sections of Hawken and Half-Life 2 that came to life in a new way. The only drawback is the limited resolution, which is quite noticeable, but version 2 is supposed to fix that. I highly recommend you check it out if you ever get the chance. It's still pretty much a niche thing right now, but after witnessing it for myself, I came away convinced that this is going to shape gaming in a profound way in the years to come.
