I don't like earbuds. At all. They just fall out of my ears or irritate/hurt them. I don't understand why they are so popular. I prefer to use ear clip headphones, like the attached picture. But I also like to be able to skip to the next song on my playlist without hauling my phone out of my pocket, unlocking it, and tapping the screen, so I want to find earclip headphones with a remote(you know, the little box on the cord that has a mic and a button you can click?). However, it looks like no one makes them! It seems like every pair of earbuds on the market have remotes, but no earclips do. Not to mention that earclips themselves are very rare nowadays...
Ugh. I'm very frustrated. Here's a giveaway.

What kind of earphones do you usually use in public?

I feel the same about those earbuds. The sound quality is usually also not as good as headphones. But I don't really have a problem with having to take my phone out to select a new song, since I usually just listen to full albums and my playlists.

I personally always use regular headphones.

outside/gym - In Ear
home/notebook/pc - Over Ear/In Ear

can't stand the "pressure" of On Ear or
regular small headphones - just too uncomfortable

I take like 3 seconds to take out my phone, unlock it and swipe left, but still I use headphones whenever I can.

I won't argue that it doesn't really take much effort to use your phone to control the music, but when you skip around songs as much as I do, it gets old fast. :P

why not just frankenstein an earclip you like? get cheap buds, cut wire approx 2 inches past mic and buttons, wire to earclips you prefer. theres no additional wiring past the buttons besides the 2 channels and ground.

before someone comes in and says they'll look like shit, heat shrinkwrap them after, no one will be able to tell.

I'd probably like using big headphones like that if it was more convenient to do so in public. As it is, I only use the ones I have while mowing the lawn...

+1, great advice. Another option is to simply buy a pair of full sized headphones.

Good advice, that would help them stay on! But part of the problem is that I don't like the "bud" design itself- I prefer to have the larger disc over my ear, like the photo in the OP. I guess I might have to compromise in that regard.

No you misunderstand, take the headphones in your picture, cut the wire 6-10 inches from phones, cut the wires from a cheap pair of earbuds, a couple inches after the mic/buttons, so you now have your ear clip headphones with just a little wire, and a wire with a 4pole connecter and the mic / buttons. Splice wires together, wrap with heat activated shrinkwrap, heat with hair dryer and viola, now have earclips with a built in remote.

This will work without issue, because after the mic/buttons, the only wires left (where you cut), are the left and right audio channels and grounds.

I've seen those before. Are they bluetooth, or do they have a cord?

I could never use those because I always have at least an ear piercing healing at a time. I always use earbuds (in-ear ones) 'cause they're not heavy like headphones (those would still be pretty bad for my piercings) and even though I'm super picky about sound, I find the ones I've used so far really good (mostly Sony, Panasonic and Phillips). Plus, I'm almost constantly using them when I'm at home, if not on my laptop, then on my phone listening to music.
Thanks for the gib, have it on my wishlist ^^

this begs the question of how many piercings you have.

Not that many yet, actually. 3 in my right ear, and 5 in the other. But I have one in my cartilage in the left ear, and they heal super slowly. I still have to wait at least half a year more until it's fully healed so I can sleep on my other side at least, haha. I ended up getting two more mid-ear in the meantime because I couldn't help myself, and they're still healing 'cause they're pretty recent. I'm pretty sure it's the beginning of an addiction.

I like the ear clips. They're getting harder to find nowadays now though.
I want them so I can listen to music while at work (after customers leave).

I keep my ears open on the mean streets, and I use IEMs (in-ear monitors) when I need to shut out the world. I'd pack full-size headphones around if it were more socially-acceptable.

I always use earbuds (in ear), but if you think that they are too small, why not change the plastic blob thingie for a slightly bigger one or another variant of them? I mean, there must be some sort that fits your ear as perfectly as for me? ^^ Sure, some types refuse to fit properly no matter what, so I know what you mean, but there's a ton of others and some type should fit perfectly. Myself I stopped having that problem after changing to skullcandy and I love their blobs, and the sound is imo really good in their more expensive (imo expensive (~15-20€)) kinds.
And since I don't know what the blob is called I'll just add a pic so that you understand what kind of blob I mean when I say blob!

LOL! I don't know if those have a name, but plastic blob thingie serves them well!
The earbuds I'm using now came with 3 different sets of blobs, but none of them fit correctly. :(
I guess I'll have to find some that fit better somehow...

I use Bose earbuds (super expensive I know...but I'm really sensitive to loud noise and get migraines easily). They're really comfy imo and fit my ears well, I love them.

Some of the $5-20 earbuds hurt my ears after wearing for long periods, but others are fine. I never really have trouble with them falling out. The only thing that really bugs me about some earbuds is that you can hear whenever anything touches the cord, so whenever you move it's like a loud scratching noise in your ears...it's like nails on a chalkboard to me I hate it. ;_; I've also had trouble finding ear clip ones that are comfy though, they never seem to fit right/I don't like the feeling.

Jeezy Chreezy! When you said "super expensive", I was expecting something along the lines of 60-70 bucks... I guess if they work really well for you, it might be worth it.

Haha yeah I honestly laughed out loud when someone suggested I buy them. I normally hem and haw about spending $10, let alone hundreds of dollars on some dinky earbuds. But thankfully they work great for me, have had 'em for over a year used daily and still going strong. ✧knock on wood✧ :)

In many cases, cable vibrations can be dampened by routing them around the outer ear like so.

I don't listen to music outside. Then again, I don't go outside. Inside I always use speakers. If I wanted to buy earphones for outside use I would buy some expensive good quality earbuds.

I use Samsung earbuds or over the ear headphones when outside, usually the earbuds, because headphones can be a pain to carry and sometimes make you look like an asshole. I dislike clip ons or the ones that squeeze your head, and ear buds I'm pretty picky with. I hate the one with plastic that goes in you ears, and most others fall out pretty easily and have horrible quality, but the Samsung ones are alright, and it's a good alternative for exercising or going to places where the earphones I prefer aren't appropriate.

I think earbuds became so popular simply because they're so small -- nothing beats them for portability.
