Nothing essential but I think it would be nice if we can take notes about users on their profiles, to remember specific things.

Something like this:

You can do this with ESGST

Thanks. I checked the add-on and it seems very useful. Though I do not prefer using extensions like that. Also I don't think it has a backup feature, so the notes would be disappear if I reinstall my system or browser, or cannot sync the notes between devices.

ESGST have cloud synchronization: setting, notes, etc.

I checked but didn't notice it. Maybe there is a difference between Chrome and Firefox versions? Though I'll look into it again.

Happy cakeday btw.

Found it but still not sure about using it. Doesn't seem too ethical. :)

I think the only thing that could be considered unethical in ESGST is its bypassing of certain low-difficulty puzzles, ever since they cleaned up the one-click-entry to actually show descriptions? But I don't use ESGST (given its bloat, and the fact that it only covers things I don't need, rather than the things I do), so I can't speak with assurity on that.

That said, it can fairly confidently be assumed that your request in this thread'll be denied, as scripts are not only supported by the site's owner, but actually encouraged by them- to the point where it was made clear in the past that things that can be handled by scripts won't be considered for addition to the site. Add in that what you're requested is more user-end to begin with, and would just needlessly use up site resources despite the fact that scripts could handle the matter just as readily, and we can probably change the "fairly confidently" to "confidently".

Beyond that, note that scripts are primarily just a user-end customization element. As long as they don't automate any data-sending, they're not in violation of site rules (and, moreover, don't do anything that can really be detected by the site to begin with). ESGST is the site's most notable script, and has enough of a reputation that it wouldn't run any risks on rule violations.

If you're at all up for the fiddling, you can easily create your own scripts just by piecemealing out the parts you want from an existing script, and tweaking their configuration to suit your needs. Of course, how easy that'll be to do depends heavily on how professionally the script-writer arranged their code, and how complex their arrangements for a particular matter are.

If you're on a PC or tablet rather than phone, I'd personally just recommend using a wordpad/Notepad++/etc doc file to leave notes [Google Doc it if you need it on multiple devices], and CTRL+Fing any time you want to search out a name for reference on their notes.

Yeah, that's the part why I commented like that (fixing broken links). It is possible that this add-on also helps bots.

Though those are fair points. Now I presume it will be denied as well since it's covered by a browser add-on but it was nothing essential anyway. In this case I can go with Joplin since I can sync it with every device, thanks for the suggestion.

I think I can fiddle around but I lived without it until now so I don't think I will use it from now on, so it's all good, at least for me.

there is a backup function
but no way to do this between devices

Okay, I'll check again. Though it was not in add-on settings.
Backup would suffice.

Edit: They're not in add-on page however all settings are inside the ESGST settings. Still not sure about it but it's an alternative.

extensions is better for this sort of features
it keeps your data local and private, and take the load off the website servers.

From a privacy aspect I agree with this. If encryption would be a huge load for the site, it's indeed pretty much meaningless.

ESGST is very handy after the initial information overload. I don't use most features, but I don't think I would be able to operate this website without it due to being picky about games. I use tags and tag filtering extensively to filter things I want, may want, not sure, or don't want. I also tag games already on other platforms or systems, plus endless scrolling is a godsent.

I currently have 250+ of the currently active giveaways filtered out by tags and they're not clogging my screen. What's on my screen are things I may be interested in tagged by importance to know where to prioritize my points at a glance without having to spend time checking every GA beyond the initial first time I look a game up to decide if I want it.

Not gonna lie there are pretty neat features in it. Personally I just hide games and usually I don't even have a second page, though if ESGST also can hide my ignored games on Steam, I would run it time to time.

If I knew about it 5 years ago, probably it would be one of my favourite add-ons. :)

Yeah, I suppose you're right. You're already used to the way you do things, I'm new so I looked for something to deal with my initial annoyances. I turned tags off first time I turned them on because it was too much clutter, but then I turned them back on because clutter is less annoying than having to check every game. When something is autotagged "multiplayer" without a single player option or "bullet hell", I'm not going to even look at it. It's an automatic "no" for me. Now I'm it doesn't even register as cluttered. It does tag ignored and wishlisted games on Steam, by the way.

What kind of tags do you use? Genre?

Custom tags, not the automatically generated ones. Basically my level of interest (4 levels and use 2 tags if I think a game is between levels), certain genres, for example, I'm not currently interested in hidden objects but I do go through phases when I am, so I would rather filter it out then simply remove the filter than hunt for them in my hidden games. "On another platform" to filter out games I own but not on Steam. "On Switch", not filtered out, for tagging purposes if I own the game there but would rather play it with a mouse, but it means low priority for points since I already own it.

It's also very handy since tags appear on all pages, so I know at a glance if I'm interested in a bundle if most of the games have been previously tagged. Example, I could know at a glance I don't want the latest Fanatical slayer bundle because most games were tagged with "don't want" and some were tagged with "hidden" (an auto tag that automatically applies when if you have hidden a game previously), one was even tagged with "ignored" (an automatic tag for games ignored on Steam).

Editing to attach an example of how a bundle post looks:

ESGST is great, but I feel like this would be better as a native feature of the website. Then the data is safely stored on the site and you're not at risk from losing it when you forget to make a backup. Plus it will work on all other devices as well, without needing to synchronize, and even on devices that can't use the plugin (like mobile).

First I thought it would be a nice thing to add too but now thinking about encryptions and all, I guess it would be an unnecessary load for the site.

Load-wise, it would be much less than the hundred or so forum posts that are made each day.

I believe you misunderstood the other post about encryption: I don't think any data is encrypted.

I might have. If there will be no encryption, then yes. A couple more text files wouldn't hurt anyone, it can be set to limited character number etc.

From the current state of the poll, it seems to be a hit or miss though. :)

I don't like using addons but would love for the website to have a note feature. I am not the best at remembering people.
