My question is, there are some games being sold at Fanatical by 2 different publishers, for example Civ 6. 2K version lists Windows reqs; Aspyr version from Aspyr lists Mac & Linux reqs.

If I buy either version and redeem the key on Steam, will I get access to the game in all posible platforms or just the listed ones? I know that when I buy directly from Steam I can install on whatever platform the game is available.

Feel free to just bump the thread. Thanks in advance.

I am pretty sure I bought Steam keys "for MAC" and they activated the windows version too - but this was 5+ years ago and not on fanatical.

Thanks for the GAs :D

Yes, Mac version will give you access to Windows version and vice versa. :)

Just in case you haven't got it yet, there's another word smooshed in there with the code.

My RL friend has an M1 mac and he can guarantee that Civ VI WILL work on a mac WITH the latest OSX.

Shame I'm too stupid to figure out the train puzzle.

If there's only one listing for the game on Steam, then that's the version you get. I have come across one or two indie games where Steam had a Windows only listing, and a Mac only listing, but that's pretty rare. (And in my opinion, shouldn't be the case).

All that determines is which developer gets a small cut from your purchase. Personally I try to support Aspyr because they've done a lot for Linux gamers and are a smaller dev that's struggling.

This is the correct answer.

Either key will activate the same package, so you can play on any platform the game supports.

The key will activate for all platforms on Steam (it's a separate depot under the same game/appid). The difference is Aspyr gets a cut if you buy their key. If you buy on Steam directly I believe it's which platform you play most in the first 2 weeks (IIRC) that determines where the money goes.

As for the port itself, it runs great on Linux but performance is better using the Windows version on Proton. I can't speak for the Mac version.
