We've all seen a lot of games get a touch up the last year or so, Dead Island, Skyrim, Bioshock, and now Darksiders. On top of that... some companies remove the "old" version from the Steam store... What are your thoughts on this? Just a simply cashgrab? Or maybe them trying to keep their games viable and give them new life in the ever growing expectations for high graphical-end games from people like us... Some have been successful and well recieved, some not so much. Give me your thoughts. To be clear; This also somewhat covers the aspect of rebooting games as well (DOOM, Wolfenstein, Shadow Warrior... Uh, now that I think about it, all those games have similar beginnings...)

Also have an invite only giveaway for Payday 2, which I need 2 to three more people if possible. If you are seriously looking to play it and not for simple profitz, say something and I'll most likely add you on Steam for the invite url.

Do you think remastering successful games should be done to

View Results
No, it's super lazy business practice. Remastering or remaking a game has a lack of effort put into it, which sis reflected in the game
No, the original is good enough. We loved it when it came out, people who try it now will love it just the same
Maybe, depends on reasons/Other (Specify below)
Yes, it brings the gaming community's attention back to a worthy classic with a modern feel to it.
Yes, it can introduce people to a franchise they may not have had the chance to try out!
I'm just here so I don't get fined (potato)

Darn, must have missed that one. Probably will close this one eventually, still have the "hidden" goal of giving invites to the GA. Thanks for the point out though

Mostly I would say easy money, especially seeing how some games hardly vhamged with a remaster. Not even the quality changing that much while that's mostly a matter of adjusting some shader settings taking into account the possibilities of newer GPU's.
I can't say I blame them for that though. Some games ARE actually well worth looking into and some have improved graphics wise. If it's worth spending more than an average bundled price for a remastered game.. I doubt it.

Furthermore.. I would not mind getting a shot at Payday 2 :)

I quite like remasters, as some games don't hold up well.
Which Tomb Raider game, the new one Rise of the Tomb Raider? or the one from a couple of years ago?

Forgot about Call of Duty's remastered game, how well has that been received rating-wise? Doesn't seem to have reviews on Steam because of the way it was forcibly bundled to Infinite Warfare and unlisted otherwise.

If the remastered version is free for whoever has the "non-remastered" version then it's fine for me,
if they remaster and pretend that users pay again then.... censored

P.s. Both games are on my radar but if I had to chose one I would go with Payday since I prefer coop or multiplayer over singleplayer

I am glad that (for the most part) the remastered editions have been given free to people who already owned the base game. Dead Island was one that didn't, but they did give a 80% discount to those who had it for preorder so it's... something at least,

I don't care about updated graphics, but these remastered versions help ensure that the game is updated to run with current systems. That's the most important part to me.

I think that this is mainly a cash crab, and I personally thing the consoles are to blame, since they make the old gen version and then the same companies a year later decide to make a remaster so that those same people that bought the original on their past console would then buy the new remastered version.

and so far for me the remastered version really isn't that different, really just has a new graphical update and in the case of the newest one Skyrim, it still has the same bugs as the original - basically all it is, is a new graphical update and nothing else.

I wouldn't mind getting a shot at the tomb raider game, I never played any of the reboot games - and I don't need to be added in to the payday 2 game since I already own it.

I only really started gaming this year, so I've missed a lot of games. I welcome every remaster, even if the graphical improvement is small. If they just make sure it runs great on modern machines, then I'm happy. Bought Bioshock for the remasters, but they kept the original bugs and added more bugs and crashes...
Would like a chance at Payday 2! Made a list of games I can play with my brother, but he only wants to play Payday 2.

I think the remasters are a fine idea, was very happy when the bioshock remasters popped up in my library as I already had originals. As to whether removing original is bad, I can understand devs wanting new shiny v 2.0 to be the one seen in stores. But as I'm a..cough mature gamer must admit I love the classic versions =).
Oh and wouldn't mind an invite if theres one available
