Dear SG, I won a recent bundle game and activated it, but later I decided to get that bundle anyway so I have an extra copy to give away. Will that count as regifting? I hope not, as it is clear that I activated it on my account. But I also wonder what about DLCs? They are not visible via Steam API, so can I safely give them away (not the same key of course!) if I previously won (and activated) them?

that's fine.

the only requirement is that you activate the game you won to your own account. If you acquire another copy, you're free to gift it

You can perfectly giveaway any game you have previously won, but never your win. This one must be activated in your account. If you get countless copies of the game in the same day or later, you are fine to give them away.

The two above answered the question, but now I'm wondering...

How would SG know whether you activated the key you won, vs. the key you just bought, especially when it's such a short timeframe like this? Would the system be alerted to the same key coming through the system again?

so if I win a GA and get a key, but at the same time there is a keydrop and I get there the same game and activate that before I do the won one I can't activate the won game anymore, but I have activated it. The won key isn't used yet, so I could make a GA for it. Is this legit, or regifting?

there is no actual way of checking which key you used. The requirement is that you activate that game to your account.
There have been countless examples where someone didn't activate and years later obtained a key so they could activate the game to their account

I have done that many time, completely fine. You just have to activate the copy you won in the connecting account, any seperate copy you acquire later is unrelated. Though maybe wait a while before gifting the second copy, just to be sure.

You are required to redeem any game won on this site to your linked Steam account. Any giveaways you choose to make for that same game or DLC are irrelevant.

  1. You have until the end of the Grace Period to activate your win and sync your account (so it shows up here on SG).
  2. If you were to activate exactly the same game/version/DLC/whatever using a key other than the one you were given, we would be able to tell.
  3. Should a problem later arise with the key you won but passed on to someone else, you would have few options. It is therefore safest to simply activate the key you were given.

Thanks, clear rules = I can feel safe :-) though I can't help but wonder how #2 is done? I doubt it's possible by steam api (or is it? I never used it myself), so would support give such info?

SG Support handles a lot of private information, so you can understand why we keep quiet.

We send our keys via this site so obviously admins can see our given key. If you try to give same key away BAM you are busted!

He was implying they'd be able to see any key even if you didn't try to regift it though. Which is obviously impossible.

It is somewhat entertaining to read all the speculation going on about it. )

Bottom line: do things the right way and you won't get into trouble.

I am sorry Khalaq but I have received an email from steam one time cause someone was checking about what account the key was activated on and it stated:

"If you did not request this query, please ignore this message.

Users cannot gain access to your account via the Find Account By CD Key process without access to your email account."

And as far as I see from this email you can not do #2 unless you are abusing something from steam which would mean a lot of bad things..
