I solved all the nonograms, filled in correct words on ITH except that "4" thing. How have you guys solved it without knowing the right answer?

I must be missing something. Am I correct that "X" means the letter is upper case and "x" means it's lower case?

Not sure if i can say that, but i guess you could maybe check Xarlor's old nonos in puzzle category for previous solutions and explanations :)

To answer your question, not necessarily. The x in "4" is lowercase because the hint is a number so I had to use a different method to let solvers know if it was lower/upper.
That last sentence was a clue for the rest of the hints, by the way. As others have stated, there are lots of old nono puzzles to search for. You will see a pattern if you study the hints and solutions posted.
