Genre search could be a valid reason. There are 7-10k games on Steam. Knowing everything in one is next to impossible, and in case of, for example, platformers, not even a title or thumbnail can tell you anything.

Eh, who knows. I can only tell anything based on my own ways of handling the site, and currently this means I have over 5400 games filtered out, because I don't care about FPSs, racing games, platformers, anything zombie-related, MOBAs, simulators, ARPGs… so if could just limit what is presented to hidden object games, RTSs, cRPGs and such, it could be nice. I have discovered quite a few good games I played since then on this site.

You can just look for tags on steam, that's not much different from looking for genres

Yep, this is what I do now. Open it on Steam, and if the userscript I use flags it as something I'm not interested in (tagfilter), I know I just simply filter it here too.

I find it more curious that OP includes "AAA" as a genre (and the first listed, no less).
"Oh hey, let's just see all the AAA games so I can enter them."

you just enter for games you like. there's already a search function on the steam store where you can wishlist your favorite games.

find games they'd otherwise wouldn't have known
about.
Edit: Also, adding the ability to exclude
genres would help too.
