The mixed-raced crew of the ship fought in an uncoordinated, animallike style and although they far outnumbered us we managed to kill them all.
(from Dagon; translated from german by me so probably not the literal english version)
But yeah, we should keep in mind that those stories were written more than 100 years ago.
