Now that Keo's 50 copies giveaway is over, it's time for me to actually do what I mentioned in the comments over there, and that mean's we're gonna play a little game - if you want, of course.

Spring Goblin and Coins marathon!

Okay, this is the idea. I'll make at least 2 non-bundled (something alongside of GTA V, Fallout 4, Doom... you know, good stuff) invite only giveaways in May. In order to get invited, you need to post a video of yourself playing Goblin and Coins on YouTube. There are some specific rules so read carefully.

Rules:

  • In order to be invited for the first giveaway, you need to record yourself playing on casual, with voice commentary and face cam, and reach at least level 4-5 (world 4: village, level 5).
  • In order to be invited for a second giveaway, you need to record yourself playing on Old School difficulty with voice commentary (face cam optional) and reach at least level 3-1 (world 3: swamp, level 1).
  • Voice commentary doesn't have to be "pro" or whatever... Just be heard from time to time, mention what's easy and what not...
  • If you're using face cam for 1st gib, it must be you, no facerig or other similar CGI thingy.
  • You need to post the link to your public YouTube video as a reply to OP in this topic until May the 5th this year.
  • YouTube description needs to have "SG: your_user_name" in the first line. Username must match the poster username.
  • Invites are not transferable. I'll list the invited usernames in the giveaway descriptions and ask for a re-roll in the case of the leak.
  • Both giveaways will be for non-bundled games. Which exactly is something I'll decide later based on availability.
  • Both giveaways will be posted by May 10th.
  • Giveaways will be held and gifts/keys delivered even if the number of entries is below 5... or you're the only one.

Requirements:

  • You have Goblin and Coins in order to play and record (I don't need to know if you had it already, won it here, or bought it after reading this - but if you're gonna do that at least use coupons or wait for a discount).
  • You must be a member of SteamGifts in order to enter the giveaways (You can register after this post was published, I don't mind, but respect the rules!)
  • Don't cheat and respect rules of SteamGifts website.

Tips:

  • Play on casual, get to know/learn the game: How to act in certain places, how to deal with enemies, what to visit and what to avoid in the later old school run.
  • Use hardware recording if you can. While game is lightweight and can work even on 2in1 netbooks, Fraps or similar software could reduce your framerate.
  • Talk in English. I don't mind if you have an accent, I'm not a native speaker either.
  • Feel free to read community guides on Steam.
  • If you get discouraged, feel free to watch other players and see how they dealt with something.
  • Ask, and someone might answer. There are tips&tricks for all the enemies and bosses, just need to find them.
  • Have fun and laugh. That's the point to have fun together :)

Out of competition example:

(You too can post out of competition videos if you've made a video that doesn't meet the requirements but you still wanna share it because it's funny or for whatever reason!)

Ah, thanks :D That is not the problem, the problem for me is bee move pattern or rather its hitbox (?). If you jump too early on it even if it looks like you will jump on top of it, you still get hit by the side of it. I needed some time to get used not to hurry and wait while the bee gets lower, so that I can be sure that I will be much higher during my jump then the bee and no unexpected stings materialize in goblin's body.

About event itself: I do plan to make a video with voice commentary, hope I'll find the time now.

P.S. That's sad if I'm late, I was trying to upload video for last 3 hours and actually even lost my previous comment because you edited the post title. Welp...

Okay, let me watch the videos, I think I can accept your application if everything else is okay.

Ok, I'll accept it as you've really made an effort and would be silly to not allow your entry as it's still the 5th technically. Welcome in, added you on steam to send you a link.

This is actually great idea for event. However, it seems people are not really participating, which is sad.

Yes, I wish I knew what the reason is.

There's enough of people owning the game on SG, no one is expecting perfect game plays, the idea is to have fun... Not sure if the reason is lack of time/will to do anything, or that commentary/facecam is required, or too many levels maybe... Or people don't even read when they see "bunch of rules" (which are 2-3 simple rules split into smaller parts for readability and clarity).

There were several people saying they don't have the time right now, so that's certainly the part of it.

I can understand face cam, but why commentary? You can just say random words from time to time like "this is too easy... " / dies 7 times

It might be cool to try this with other games - more popular or free to play (so everyone can pick it up anytime).
I sadly do not own the game to participate, but I'm thinking about just buying it because of this event... It's too cool imo to just let it be.
Honestly, thanks a lot for this even, as this is what I was looking for on steamgifts. No stupid ITH quizes, not enraging jigidi either. Just pure gaming / fun. There should be more events like this.

The reason I'm doing it with this game is because I made it and there was recently a giveaway for 50 copies here. The game itself is very much a product of sg community which influenced it highly with their suggestions and bug reports.

But yes, we could, as community, do this more often with older games... maybe even emulated ones or whatever. Sadly, I don't think it would get more people to join in, as 99% of the sg users are here for free games, and while there's enough public giveaways, they won't bother to do anything that requires any effort on their side. Not saying we should abolish public giveaways, just that core community that can actually activate in any sort of event is really small compared to total users.

I was surprised to see so many people dislike the face cam/commentary aspect of it, considering the popularity of the selfie thread and the karaoke competitions (and you need less talent to comment than to sing!)

Yes, visiting YouTube for a few moments would make you think everyone is streaming games nowadays and yet... they are not members here, I guess.

Like I said, original idea was to motivate winners of Keo's giveaway to actually play the game (as we all know, besides 500 people who actually wanna play it, there's 12.500 entries who don't really care at all what they are entering, and statistics tell us that 90% of the winners fall into this group). Of course, it would be rude to not open it for everyone who has the game and is a member here so... this happened.

Still hoping there'll be more people participating, as you actually need a day couple of hours to play a bit and then record something, it's a short game.

I think another problem is that participating in this challenge requires quite a bit of technical knowledge not everybody has.
I have recorded and uploaded a few videos from PS4 where capturing videos is a native feature but it seems to be a little more complicated on PC and familiarizing yourself with the software takes time probably not everybody has.

Also for us bundle crowd, who are used to buy games for a few cents, 10% off is not a very tempting offer (even if the game is rather cheap to begin with and was developed by a fellow SteamGifter) specially considering the incentives to participate are not particularly tempting (except maybe for people who try to win anything regardless if the are interested in it).
So the challenge is pretty much limited to people who already have the game.

Edit: Nevermind. I missed the line what to expect as incentives and just saw non-bundled, depending on availability.
The incentives are good but even with AAA games it would probably be better to know what to expect.

My next guess would be that facecam is probably another requirement that might deter some potential participants.

Edit 2: Also does hardware recording refer to a capture-card (or whatever those things are called) because I doubt a lot of people have one of those.

Hardware recording means having a GPU that has integrated H264 chip which records video in a native resolution without any framerate drops (so you don't need to use software recorder like Fraps which would slow down gameplay in any game). nVidia cards have Shadowplay feature through GeForceExperience software, for example. I assume AMD has something similar too. So basically, 50-100% gamers should have it, and even if not, software recording is not forbidden, you can record however you want... It's just a tip so you don't get slowdowns (in any game). Also, recording through GeforceExperience is quite similar to recording on a console, so not complicated at all.

even with AAA games it would probably be better to know what to expect

Maybe, but I can't know what participants might want/need and what they'll already have. I could say DOOM, and then ending up with 3 people out of whom 2 have DOOM and 1 has no interest in the game.

who are used to buy games for a few cents

Oh, I understand this feeling very well, that's why I don't expect people to buy it just for this event, nor was that the point.

Don't get me wrong, I never expected lots of people to join... but was hoping for at least 3-8 so we have more fun. Still gonna make the giveaway even if it's only one though.

50-100% gamers should have it

I'm using an onboard graphic chip so 100% is probably a bit too high but I see what you mean.

Oh, so the prices also depend on which games the entrants already have / would be interested in. I misinterpreted "based on availability" then.

Maybe linking some good tuturial (if something like that exists) on video capturing might help a little bit but I'm not completely sure about that.

Anyway, I hope I could provide some helpful thoughts for this and / or future events.

There's a website floating around that lets you check playtime of games...it would be a depressing exercise to see If your game was being played or sitting gathering dust/idled for cards :<

Oh, I have access to those stats from various sources, including Steam. Great majority of people who buy the game actually play it a lot. Sadly, most of the mentioned giveaway winners didn't even idle it, let alone tried it out. I guess that should be expected.

Awareness bump and +1 spam into NB's inbox. I also always pictured jatan as some guy in his mid-30's, sporting a hip beard and with a fetish for ugly hand-made christmas sweaters, kinda weird to be disappointed like that ;D.

Okay I've created 3 giveaways for our 3 hero goblins from their wishlists... and waiting for them to respond. Let's hope they are not shy.

Also, please watch their videos, comment, like or whatever and show your support for these brave coin collectors!

Even officially ended.

Results are visible in the table in the OP but here is a tl,dr:

  • Jatan('s girlfriend) played on casual, face cam included, won Deus Ex: Mankind Divided from their wishlist
  • kataztrophik played on old school, no face cam, won Dishonored 2 from their wishlist
  • CrystalGamer played on old school, no face cam, won Doom from their wishlist

That's it. I'm thankful to all the participants and really enjoyed watching all the videos. It was a bit sad that there were no more entries, but I'm sure we're all feeling much better now that the gifts went to the right hands ;)

Until the next event...
