UPDATE: Teaser is out!

Long story short, after success of Witcher games Tomasz Bagiński, Oscar winning polish producer and his studio Platige Image bought licence to make Witcher movie. Now they sold it to Netflix, and Netflix in collaboration with Platige is going to make full Witcher TV series. So what ya think? You'd watch it? You hope it will turn to be great or rather disaster? Important side-note - series will be related rather to books than video games ;)

Enjoyed each of the games and have several of the books, so I will be watching.

My humble opinion is that Netflix is shit. I'll give the series a chance, but I don't expect much.

The service or the production studio?

The studio, I find most of the stuff overhyped and with poor acting. The last thing I saw was "Stranger things" and apart from Winona Ryder it was like a fan made Stephen King's Firestarter tribute. I may be wrong though, if you have some good series in mind, any recommendations are welcome.

I know this is based on the books rather than the games, as a fan of the latter, wouldn't be fun/cool for Doug Cockle to star as Geralt? With enough preparation and some make up wizardry, I don't think it's too far fetched for him to actually embody Geralt in addition to just voicing him.

BTW why not a poll? =d

because first - I rarely creaty my own topics so not think about making poll, second - i always prefer discussions - this way users are forced to write something, interact in the slightest way (if you write someone can reply) instead on anonymously clicking ;p

Awe man, I saw this on Reddit this morning. It sounds like a freaking awesome idea! Anyone actually read the book series?

I did read them 9 times ;p hech, i wrote my highschool polish graduation thesis based on them :)

That's pretty legit. How would you compare them to the games? I'm assuming if you read them 9 times, it's worth the time to invest to someone who hasn't read them yet?

As much as i peraonally hate an author they are still my most beloved books ever. The problem may be translation. A lot in these books depends on very clever and well crafted play on words, which can be hard to translate. I know 1st release of books in west, years b4 game flawed because they were translated horribly. Idk about new translations thou.

of top, can i ask why you hate author? actually i don't see him saying anything in public (just one thing that he didn;t like game if I recall correctly - ps. looks like his idol is stephen king;) so can't say anything about him even that i've read all his books

He said a lot of shit on fantasy conventions in PL across the years. He's basically full of himselves, thinking of himself as the best most talented writer in history, often talking nasty things about any other author. On top of that he's a bigot, chauvinist, racist and quite a few other things which he's proven in fan discussions over the years as well. Guy wrote awesome books, but his success went into his head and he started showing what a horrible human being he is.

Propably that's why they are so talented ;)
thanks for clearing this out and i'm glad i've never heard him in public

Dmitry Glukhovsky on the other hand, seems be a cool dude, always with an opposite opinion to the Witcher writer statments regarding the videogame medium.

General consensus in polish fandom is read AS books but ignore him as a person, cause it may influence the books you love ;p

there won't be this tub scene, series is based on books, not games, and games are sequels to books ;p but in 2nd book there was imho much better tub scene, so maybe they'll have that ;p

Some Netflix series are boring as hell...for example Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Daredevil... hopefully Witcher series is good. :)
Edit: But tbh The Expanse and Designated Survivor are awesome!

Not a fan of IF and LC but I loved DD. Best fist combat scenes ever, so realistic and raw instead of usual theatrical choreographed shite. Havent seen last two you mentioned, but quite a few ppl who worked on Expanse are credited in the Netflix news and willmwork on Witcher.

Netflix did well with the Daredevil and somewhat decent with Jessica Jones, really good in some other projects, their TV shows are okay... not sure how the Witcher would turn out though. I guess we'll see?

Great games, good books, a show based on the books - it's definitely a chance that it turns out good. But hypes are only leading to disappointment, let's wait and see.

There was very bad movie released ;p years upon years ago polish tv bought rights to books. It was b4 lotr movies and in time when noone was even thinking bout fantasy in tv, they made low budget bad acting tv series based on 1st two books, then some genius got an idea "lets cut out action scenes from 13h of tv series and montage them into 2h long movie withoit any context". Both were bad. Series was maybe 4-5/10 and movie was 1/10.

I'm interested since I'm one of those weirdos who has actually read all the books translated into English but hasn't played TW2 or 3. I like the world as a setting and as a storyline but found TW tedious with shite combat mechanics and obnoxious crafting and am not terribly eager to play the rest.

Netflix announced that The Witcher TV show will premiere in late 2019.
The info part in the article:
"Netflix also revealed that The Witcher was coming in the last three months of the year.
On its investor call, Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandso revealed that the fantasy drama, which stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia and is currently in production in Hungary, would launch in Q4. The series, which follows a solitary monster hunter struggling to find his place in a world, is written, exec produced and showrun by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich."

Also sad news, Mya-Lecia Naylor, who was playing the role of young Triss Merigold, just got reported dead on April 7th, but only announced yoday. No cause of death reported, but several british news outlets report suicide after years of struggling with depression.

Im probably one of those rare weirdos who hasnt read, played or seen anything related to witcher series (aside from the fact everyone praises it), but this looks interesting and well made. Could give it a try

PS. its not that I dont want to play or read them. As I live 99% from bundled games I hadnt had the chance to acquire anything Witcher related :D I would definitely love to read the books as well if I ever get ahold of any
