Yes, you do.

And I'd also like to remind you that winner might be a scumbag and activated the game without marking as received.

That's risky. What if he actually used that key?

That's why I mentioned second part.

I'd suggest "request received feedback" then.

Well, still need to run it by support, either way, or it'll be your neck on the line.

Presumably, in the case that they'd used the key, you'd let SG staff know and they'd 'make a mark on the user's account', denoting suspicious behavior, if they don't outright mark it as received by them.

Not much to do but gamble on the rest, given that the correct protocol is to ask for a reroll after 7 days.

Then again, blindly following the rules as-written hasn't worked out for me 100% of the time on this site, either :X

I wouldn't risk myself if I decided to send the key to the winner and he didn't mark as received, neither accepted my tries to contact with him.

If he doesn't mark as received, and doesn't accept my tries to contact with him (through multiple ways) as well, I consider him as a typical regifter/bot/rule-breaker and request received feedback, unless he didn't log in to SG yet.

The problem is that even if the keys is used, you might not be able to tell by whom. It could be a duplicated key, the new user might be a scumbag, etc... Requesting received feedback makes more sense to me in this case tbh, but I don't know if support would approve :S

As I noted, it may not be the most sensible approach, or the one support ACTUALLY wants, but it's the indicated course to follow.

My extremely low opinion on how the site's rules are maintained (namely, all the unwritten rules, exceptions to rules, and inconsistency in applying rules) should be well-known by now :P

The most important point I was making, was that first sentence ;)

When it happened to me I just let it go instead of rerolling, you can't be sure if they used the key or not.

Yes. Provide screenshots and links to each thing you did, in your support request.

Request a reroll when key might be used is not that good...wait till he writes you...otherwise blacklist him for the future.

You can ask the legit site's support to deactivate the key, and generate you a new one :)

I once got blocked on steam by winner of an expensive game, then sent him email and he responded.

I'd screenshot it and ask for reroll, just because he didn't care enough to even ask for a reason of friend request, not to mention checking SG.

you see, that's where I already start to cringe... if I get a friend request out of the blue from some. to me, total stranger, it either gets ignored or I'll be blocking that person...

It may seem blunt but considering the number of scams occurring on Steam, I rather be safe than sorry. At the least I expect someone to introduce themselves before asking.

And if SG operates correctly, than I shouldn't need to worry about missing out on a won key since the fact I did win should have been announced through email

Since when accepting a friend request means that you can't ask the guy what is the reason for adding, give him like an hour to respond, and eventually remove?

You don't have to click any links, and bot can't scam you if you don't. We (giveaway creators) already put our effort and the money to provide you with the gift, if you're too lazy to check SG or even accept our friend request then I guess you're too lazy to accept the gift as well. I'm not commited to do everything possible to send you the game, either YOU want it, or not. And by refusing friend request and not responding I assume you don't want it.

if receiving a friend request would only mean I won a giveaway, I would agree. but since it isn't...

Whenever I get a random invite, first thing I do is check if I won something on steamgifts. If I didn't, I'll decline (most of the time). Maybe you should start to do that too. Just a suggestion..

Edit: Well, never mind, I think.

not everyone's profile allows non friend comments, not everyone can remember every player they saw in a multiplayer game, just add for a while so they can explain themselves

wait till 7 days have passed, then ask for a reroll unless he activated the game.
it's possible that he traded it or activated on another account though -.-

never send keys through sg to strangers, it's pretty risky (whitelist and group should be ok if you know them). just add them on steam and give it to them so you can check if they activated it.

Just move on, if you ask for a reroll and the key is aldready used you will be responsible. We need a solution for that situation. Maybe dev could add a button to reveal the code and if the button has been clicked it would automatically mark as received after 7 days.
