Square Enix was recently selling an Easter Surprise Box for $9.99 USD that had $80 USD worth of their different games redeemable on Steam. The Steam keys were distributed today. I noticed that I had all the games that were in the box and decided to give them away here. Unfortunately, the keys were not matched properly with their perspective games. When people won their games I started getting messages about how they received the wrong game. I thought I screwed up big time and got the keys mixed up. To rectify the situation I got the people together that had redeemed keys that didn't match the game they won and purchased the correct ones for them. I didn't find out 'till later that it was an actual screw up on Square Enix' end. Please make sure you check the message that Square Enix released about this issue and match the correct games with their keys in the Easter Surprise Box if you decide to give them away.

I did. Purchased them directly off steam... again. I wanted to make sure the winners got what the game that they had entered for and I thought I had made the mistake. I also wasn't about to have any dings on squeaky clean record.

Probably, but that would require me to have games to trade for. I'm just a casual here. Sometimes I get keys or gifts from friends or family of games I already own and I just give them away here.

Wouldn't it have been cheaper to buy 5 more bundles instead?

The sale ended the day before they announced what games were in it and distributed the keys.

Oh that sucks. I wonder if you could ask SE to give you a set of new keys and revoke the older ones. Sorry that happened to you.

I think I found the hero I needed, but not the one it I deserved.
It's the White List for you.
Cheers!

Meh, thanks though. I just want people to be aware of the issue so they don't get into a kurfuffle like I did. I was going to post about the issue on the Square Enix forums directly, but they are all but dead.

Ahh, okay. Thanks. I wasn't sure where to post this. Next time I will be more thorough in my search so I don't create more than one thread about a topic. Been here awhile, but it's the first time I have used these forums.

Useful thread, I won't be buying from them anytime soon.

That's also happened to me before, having to pay full-price after the retailer messes up the keys.

Sorry to hear that. I heard about the key mix-up and waited until a friend could check one of the keys for me before I created my giveaways. It really sucks that they would be so careless like that, especially since they advertised the box as a good opportunity to "spread the Easter joy" and gift the separate keys to some friends.

You should have contacted square support and seen if they could revoke the keys and issue new ones as it was clearly their mistake.

I tried by phone at first. Five hour wait time. And they took over 36 hours to respond to me by email. Which was a canned response I might add.

Damn.
AFAIK you could have asked for the GA to be deleted and the winner also post his agreement. At least then you wouldn't have to buy a new key and the winner keeps whatever he activated.

Yep, thought about that. Wanted people to get what they entered for. I bit the bullet on this one, and it was my choice to do so. I made the post just to make sure people were aware of the issue. Looks there was already a thread about it though.

Sorry to hear that... was still very kind of you to buy the keys even though it was square's problem. Hope you can contact square support about this.

Whoo... what a gut shot. Sorry you had to shell out.
I won a GA for one of those games today, but I got the right one. I guess not everyone's keys were mislabeled?

The keys were released in the early morning and were later fixed by SE in the late afternoon.
