I was just ready to play some more Torchlight to see that I must install the game..AGAIN..I will seriously rage quit if my save file is also gone. Did this happen to anybody else?

Nope, I played the game this morning before I went to school. No HDD cleaning.

+1 This happened to me but with Borderlands. If I remember correctly, I double clicked the game to "install" it again, paused the download (since all the files are still on your HDD), and verified game cache and everything was back to normal.

When you go to re-install, is it literally downloading everything again? I've heard of cases where Steam shows a game as uninstalled, but when you go to re-install, it only takes a few seconds (suggesting the files were still there in the first place).

It says it's preparing the files for install for 10 minutes now.

Steam does fully uninstall games sometimes. All of their data is erased from the Steamapps folder. It's annoying but I've never heard of anything that can prevent it. I get the bug a lot that shows that I need to fully redownload but don't actually have to, but The Secret World uninstalled itself from Steam once which was extra frustrating since it's a 40GB game.

Damn, that's really a problem then.Especially for games with stupid DRM, like Batman Arkham City.

I don't remember what exactly I did when it happened to me like two weeks ago with Torchlight, but I remember doing something along with turning off Steam/restarting laptop, clicking to reinstall... It eventually fixed itself. My save games were absolutely fine, it saves in the Steam cloud so you should keep yours too even if something bad happened
