Steam Website down?

Me and plenty of others have had this same error lately. Especially today I can't even enter the store. Before it has only happened for me when trying to send a gift or buying stuff.

its not down. it happens randomly if the server is under pressure ( lot of users viewing the same thing ).
probably cuz gaben is sitting on the wires lol

Ah, it's been buggy and slow for a while now and today I can't even open the store page.
And I was just about to put some things on the market!

I don't understand how such a huge site would go down as often as it does.
Surely there should be some fail-safes in place to avoid it.
The community aspect of Steam goes down more often than the others, which is even worse.
