SteamGifts automatically adds referrals to any Humble Bundle / Fanatical (and other stores) links.
It's not something I can control, any link I post is modified automatically by the site.
You can disable reflinks from your profile though. Check the note in the OP, "Note about referrals".

Just as a data point: I picked up the Non-VR game some time ago and now I have the VR game in my library - So I'm guessing it was auto-added at some point .

Checked the discussion and tried a google search but can't find any info regarding if buying the VR version directly gives you access to any of the Non-VR versions of the game.

Both Republique VR and Republique non-VR store packages contain the other one, so you have both games included no matter which of them you buy.
