Serious post, but have a key instead just for reading.

This guy has been registered 10 months, never put up a giveaway for anything, wins this first one, and screws it up. I can't tell if troll or just stupid.

the system should not allow ppl to make as not received until the 7 days has passed. thats just a recipe for mistakes and confusion to be made

He did mark it not received after 7 days because he claims he didn't get it. But he never replied to the email, was never on Steam or unresponsive when I tried to contact him. After he didn't accept the gift after 7 days, I asked for a reroll... and support hasn't gotten to my ticket yet.
I updated my support ticket and included a screenshot of the email I sent eleven days ago. Winner is just a fail.

K. Apparently I am not being clear because I'm so pissed off.
1) I sent the gift on the day he won it via email.
2) Never got any sort of response from him. Tried to contact via Steam, but could not.
3) After 7 days, I submitted a ticket for a reroll.
4) Support does not get back to me for the last 4 days.
5) After 11 days (today), the "winner" marks gift not received.
6) I look like a jerk because winner is a loser.

Support can fix the feedback, since you provided proof of your sending the game. Once a reroll is granted, the giveaway disappears from the previous winner's won list, and the received/not received option along with it, so perhaps your feedback score will be automatically adjusted.

Ah, cool. takes a deep breath
Thanks. I feel better now. In fact, I don't even care now. I can just wait.

I had a stupid man who got his account hacked but i made him to mark the gift as recived.

I may start doing that as well. Thanks for the suggestion.

not for a reroll i hope. pending 2 weeks old reroll request here. \o/

Oy vey. Last time I submitted one, they took care of it within like a day or two. I guess all the admins are busy right now. Bummer.

I wanted to share in the true spirit of sharing, but it looks like I may have to in the future. :(

Yes, there is. They can check the guy's account and if the game is not on there, reroll. If it turns out the original guy did activate it, then he can be banned.

I think fad knows that. What he's saying is that they might not re-roll because the key could now already have been used by someone else even if the game isn't on the winner's account. The winner could have given it to his friend, sold it, traded it, key dropped it on a forum, anything. We don't know if the key will still work.

Reroll. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work, sorry new winner. Otherwise, the person doing the giveaway is the one that's paying the price. :(

At best you can hope for the mods to delete your giveaway so you don't get a negative mark. They will not reroll if an activation code has been sent.
You have given away 60 games, I assume you've felt good about this. Please don't let one bad experience ruin it for you, think of all the other people instead and feel warm and fuzzy :)

Well good luck with it!
Checking my keys, I have an unredeemed humble gift link for the game in question (it's Bridge Project, right?). If they let you re-roll and it turns out it was used already I'd be happy to give you the link so you can pass it on to the new winner.
Add me if or when you need to.

I think you've got that a bit mixed up. It's more like "Reroll, and if it doesn't work, buy a new copy and give it to the winner. Sorry, giver."
By the way, this kind of thing happens to me a lot. That's why I give my keys through Steam chat. I have a copy of the conversation, and I can make sure the key is used (or not). When I get a winner who won't respond, I send him or her an email after five days saying something like, "You haven't responded, so I'm guessing you don't want your gift. I will contact Support for a reroll." That usually gets a quick response.

The winner must redeem the game. They cannot give it away or trade it. Simply ban him.

Yeah, I want to give this guy negative feedback, but it seems we are rewarded for our kindness with no way to fix things if the "winner" wants to be a jerk.

What a jerk, yep you probably should make your Giveaways $0.01 at least.

That really sucks. It's a shame a lot of people here give games away for free, and yet there are people here who just decide to abuse that.

don't you get a banner/notice on this site as well lol. You figure that would mae you double check email o.0
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes, you'd think! I guess some people don't think, and that's the problem.

well I do find common sense to be uncommon. And thanks for confirming the banner/notice I wasn't 100% sure on that

Yeah I had a giveaway once where the guy who won visited the site multiple times and apparently still ignored both my email and friend request. Luckily he didn't mark it as not received. My only guess is, since it was a DLC, maybe he realized he already owned it and decided to just ignore me instead of tell me.

I'm starting to get nervous myself actually. My first giveaway ended yesterday, I've sent the key, they guy activated the game on his steam account but didn't confirm he's received it. It's the first giveaway he's won so I've sent him an email to remind him to confirm it on steamgifts - and he's just sent me an email back thanking me instead... |D;

Just a tip, a lot of emails get spam filtered, probably due to titles like "Congratulations, you're a winner!" and such. I always put the game title for the email subject to avoid that.
Also, if it's someone's first win, I always contact them through Steam rather than email, to give them a special congratulations, then can talk to them about activating the key and marking as received. If the user has had wins before, I feel more comfortable emailing the key. If they don't respond to the Friend Request, you can send an email asking them to accept.
Though we don't like to, sometime we will re-roll when a key has been sent already, assuming the winner doesn't have the game activated on his account, no sign of alternate accounts, and it truly seems like they didn't get the email.
And we will get to your ticket and your rep will be fixed.

Thanks, bobofatt. Appreciate it. I know you all donate your time here to make this a nice place for all of us. I just felt a little insulted and frustrated when I saw that ding on my profile this morning. Hopefully I didn't go overboard in my post.

Anecdotally..
I once didn't realize that the email was filtered. After the 6th or 7th day (or possibly before, I didn't mark it Not received yet) I got an add. And a couple of days later a chat came asking why didn't I mark it. I checked my spam pretty fast right then and there.

This is what I did on my last GA. I sent an email, simply informing the person that I'll sent the key when he replies back to the email. In order to make sure the email actually is read by the winner and not someone else, I requested that the reply should include a link to the GA.
Quick and easy :-) If there was no reply, I would have simply requested a new winner 7 days later.

All very good suggestions. I'll start using that for future giveaways. Thanks!

Those are good suggestions. If I can't contact them through Steam, I usually just email them the key. Its always worked out fine, but if they never responded, I couldn't be positive that they hadn't used the key, so it became a wasted key. Asking for a response back is a great idea.

A key I won went to spam, but it's beyond me how anyone can miss it. On top of that how when you see on here that you won a gift, how you can go without checking your email is also beyond me.

... and then spoil your stellar 100% reputation by marking a gift as not received.
And support doesn't answer for 4 days.
Update: So, I emailed the person again before I posted my "vent" above and he replied about a half an hour ago saying this was the first time he got the email. He has changed it to "Gift Received" and once I canceled the support request for a re-roll, it appears to have cleared itself up.
I am going to use the suggestions in this thread, though, and make things hopefully a bit safer in the future.
