I don't really see the point in achievements. If I am rewarded an achievement for beating a boss battle or finding a hidden power up then I consider that as a nice incentive to playing the game. But an achievement that requires you to do stuff like beat the whole game without taking a hit, or only use melee weapons during a boss fight just seems like a waste of time especially if there is really no purpose for spending hours to get an achievement.

I'm the opposite. Mundane things in video games, e.g. beating a boss, don't seem like the ones we should be given recognition for.

In general though I see achievements as mere ego wanking so I don't care for them.

It was more like achievements not unlocking while playing on Steam (not exporting those unlocked elsewhere), but it looks like whatever it was has been fixed. I will finally give it a chance.

I've just unlocked the "Get blacklisted" achievement it seems.

I'm not interested in the game whatsoever, but I'm curious if I made any mistakes. Eventhough never entered/won any of your GAs, or made a stupid forum thread. At least those are the reasons why I sometimes blacklist people.

Hmm that's weird... I remember my blacklist by seeing their profile name or picture but you don't ring a bell to me so unblacklisted ^^

A few weeks ago I 100% Mount and Blade: Warband.
I like achievements if devs put good achievements in the game.

I'm too OC not to like achievements... although that can go both ways, when you have an achievement that is really hard to get (or impossible to get, because it's bugged).

Bump.

Holy crap, that is a lot of achievements in a game. Damn.

Looks like there is like 6 difficulty levels in the game, where each achievement is for each difficulty level. Play on highest and get 6 achievements for the effort of one :D

Game looks old and dumb though, and these achievements would ruin everything. Get the first one, and your average would drop like half. Also all your rarest achievements would be spammed for eternity with this game.

That being said, I enjoy most achievements and like to play for 100%

Sadly no, you get achievement only for the chosen difficulty.

Wow really? That is very uncommon, and very dumb. You would never get 100% :(

It's not like they sum the number of achievements, they work with the percentage so your average would drop as it would with any other new game.. a bit more maybe but not much (if you have a lot of games to count, of course)

Are you sure about that? I've never found any proper information about how it gets calculated.

Never found any official source about it.

But if you want to know the average percentage you have to sum the percentages and then divide by their number.
If you do calculate with achievements as unity of measure you'll obtain something tied to the achievements, not to the games.

EDIT: What I mean is, you'll end up with the percentage of achievements unlocked, but that is not linked to the games anymore.

Example:
1 game has 1000 achievements and you unlock 500 of them = 50%
1 game has 1 achievement only and you unlock it = 100 %
(100+50)/2=75 % percentage completed of games
which is different from
(500+1)/(1000+1)≈0,5 percentage of achievements unlocked.
The second value is useless to know the first one.

Hope I've explained it better now :)

It's neither old, nor dumb.

And you're not quite right about the difficulty things. There are 5 different difficulty levels, and 3 different settings dictating how punishing getting killed should be. That makes it a grand total of 15 different combinations, each one of those 15 has its own set of achievements. And as others have pointed out, you don't get achievements for lower difficulty levels, so your rarest achievements won't get spammed.
