I'd also say Mtg or Hearthstone. I'm amazed that MTG is so popular, I played back when Ice Age came out and stopped in about 2001, but it's still going strong.

I played in the Hearthstone closed beta and liked it though, much more than Mtg.

I'd sign up for MTG online. You still have to purchase the cards but if you go to mtgotraders.com you can get them for real cheap. The cards are much cheaper than the paper ones.

Oh I got this. As a fellow TCG lover here we go.
You want high value animation, simple rules, great replayibility, a can you catch them all type card game?
-Hearthstone. (cons:Low variety, endgame decks are all identical with no counters)
You want more complicated and varied decks, less animation but more serious artwork, more card types than spell/creature/trap?
-Might and magic:Duel of champions (cons: People who don't get deep feel cards are hard to obtain, but I own 1.3k cards in one month as a free to play player).
You don't care about multiplayer or collecting? You just want the high animation + card complexity? No booster packs =(?
-Magic the gathering (any of them). (cons: No real expansions, just a newer version with a set of cards you can make a deck from)
You want a game different from the rest, a card game almost purely dependent on luck and hate?
-Solforge (Cons: Dying game with pure luck determining the winner)
Oh you want PVE only? Are you not mentally ready for PVP? but want complexity in the cards?
-Hex TCG (Cons:still in closed beta, every cads has a pvp and pve stat/ability, currently very overpowered cards are for closed beta exclusives)
Enjoy!

Also as of this point only hearthstone and might and magic are worth playing for me. I may end up playing hex in the future, but trust me when I say things like closed beta players have unobtainable op cards and pve passives (like start with 1-2 more cards in their hand at the start of a match), who though that was a good idea @.@, I also only do the dailies for both and unless i'm playing a round or two with a friend.

I love Hearthstone, but it's not TCG, it is a CCG. Still, one of the best games I have ever played

Also if you decide to play might and magic use a refferal code, you will get 5 free starter decks and they will get 1% of all the gold you earn lol (doesn't come from your gold just their reward) small but eh. Let me know if you need a referral code. I have plenty of tips on how to work it's achievement system for free boosters and gold for new accounts.

Let me add an unknown but fantastic game to the mix.

Elements

12 Elements, each with 14-16 cards, plus 6 'other' type cards, all upgradeable. You can create mono/duo decks, rainbow decks, etc. 6 tiers of single player, scaling in difficulty and reward, and a fairly robust 3 tier PvP system.

I've been playing this off and on since 2009. Worth a look, definitely. I wish the dev would port it to mobile.

Just a heads up. Are you really looking for a TCG or are you fine with a CCG?

  • TCG = Trading Card Game
  • CCG = Collectible Card Game

Note, that some games can be in the two genre but a difference of the two is that CCGs dont' have trading features. *Magic: The Gathering Online is a TCG and a CCG while Hearthstone is strictly a CCG.

EDIT: Looks like you already know :p It took a while to write this because of a bathroom break. lol

I kinda like Scrolls but it isn't very popular due to the cost.

What is the cost associated with Hearthstone? A friend and I play MTG occasionally and I'm curious if it's worth check out Hearthstone. I'm not interested if it's an endless money pit though.

There aren't too many tcgs for PC. The only ones I remember that have trading + have a decent playbase are Hex and Infinity Wars. MTG probably has a decent playbase online as well

I played Eredan a couple of years ago, I played for like 2 years and I only got bored because that's me, I get bored of TCGs after a while, but it's a really cool game actually.

Pokemon TCGO free to play

If you get this, enter in any scheduled tournaments possible. It is the best way to get card packs.
