So I really want to give TERA a try but I don't want to waste my time downloading the game unless it has a chance of working properly. Do you guys think my Acer Aspire laptop will be able to run the game?
Here are my specs
6GB RAM
Intel Core i5 with 1.6 ghz and turbo boosts to 2.6
Integrated Family Graphics card

"Integrated Family Graphics card" doesn't say enough to tell you whether or not it will run. Also, is your CPU a quad core?
My guess is you can't run it due to lack of GPU. Can you run any other games on this laptop?

I can run a ton of pretty nice looking games (Dragonball Xenoverse for one).
I'm not good at naming computer parts like graphic cards but as far as I know it looks like it says;
Intel HD Graphics 4400, up to 1792 MB Dynamic Video Memory (whatever that means?)

I hope that helps lol

I guess you can try. Nothing much to lose except hours of download, but if you do it overnight it doesn't matter much.

What I know at least; you'll have to run it on minimum settings, maybe even reduce the resolution as well. My Radeon R9 380x can barely run it on medium-high, it's a pretty fucking taxing game. Luckily, it supports some extremely reduced graphic settings for low-end computers as well, which is always a nice thing.

I always play all my games at super low settings anyway so it isn't anything new to me, I already downloaded it last night and will try it later today

Off topic, but aren't you on one of the servers that's going to be merged soon, Bond?

I have no idea, I haven't heard about this. I'm on Highwatch but I also have a Priest on AV and a few other characters on other servers as well.

Yes you are. This topic explains it all.

Well that's a shitty decision for PvE players. At least they had the decency of offering free server transfer, but I have a feeling this will go to shit. Can't really understand how they plan to pull that off, but I won't complain too much until something is actually wrong with the transfer.

And thanks for the heads up.

Hey, no problem. And if you do happen to go to AV, I stated before my main, while still under geared, is a female castanic priest names Tara.Brightmane. Feel free to add me.

I'm currently leveling up a male Castanic priest (heh, coincidence) on that server, actually.

Right now though, I'm trying to download that huuuge Steam update of 7GB before getting back in-game. No idea what's that big (maybe the new dungeons they were talking about?) but it may take a while. If I'm lucky, it'll be done downloading by tomorrow, but then I work on weekends so I won't get a chance to spend much time there. :P

This looks the closest to it in terms of GPU and CPU but I have a 6 GB RAM instead of 4

I don't quite remember how much I paid for it... But I think I got it on sale, I'm going to guess somewhere between 800 USD? But you really cant hold me to that because I seriously don't know the price, its been way too long

I have a friend that runs tera on a 6 year old Alienware laptop and he has no problems at max settings.

He even, at times, hooks his laptop up to his tv and runs it at 1080p.

Alienware is a pretty strong laptop though. Don't Alienware laptops have GPUs?

He has a mobile Nvidia card, I forgot which one. But he did test it on integrated and it ran on that too.

No problem. If you do decide to join, find me on the Ascention Valley servers. I'm not on as much as I used to be but I can start up again. I have a spare slot for a new character.

Run? Yeah...
Good FPS? maybe...
Image Quality? Nah...
I did Tera run with 20-30 fps using a potato box that could barely run Skyrim (i3 2.4Ghz| 4Gb| Intel HD graphics family) whatever...

Yikes, well my laptop sounds a teeny bit stronger than that so maybe ill hopefully be able to run it fine. What resolution did you use?

Well, there is that diagnostic tool linked at the top of the page. Don't know if that would be any more accurate though, but maybe worth the try.

I am going to say not advisable and should buy a more hearty laptop, but I have seen GTA 5 played on an Intel Graphics 4000. Just take a chance.

Upgrade your RAM to run in dual channel mode. It should help by doubling the GPU bandwidth.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

How can I possibly do that on a laptop? I'm sure you would have to open up the laptop right?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

There are screws on the bottom of your laptop. It should be an easy upgrade. On my ASUS laptop, I only had to remove one screw to upgrade the RAM.

I would rather not take the risk, I'm terrible at that kind of stuff. Plus, if I remember right my laptop fits the RAM requirement so I feel there is no need for it

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Do you have friends or family that could help? Ask them to do it. It's very easy. And It's not about the amount of RAM, it's about the GPU bandwidth.

Permalink

Ill see what they say. Although I seriously doubt they will help me because they think the same as me; its probably going to ruin the laptop or something

Your laptops on die gpu doesn't quite meet minimum system requirements according to the steam page. They list a Nvidia 9800GT, as minimum graphics which scores a 726 on passmark http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=GeForce+9800+GT while the Intel 4400 integrated scores a 548 http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=Intel+HD+4400 . That being said it will still run just with lower frame rates and at a lower resolution.

That's what I thought, I just really hope it wont be THAT much of a lower fps. Thanks for doing all that checking for me
