You hated the game why do you feel bad for pirating it, you should only feel bad if you enjoy the game and you can afford it yet you pirate it. I think you should just let it go, uninstall the game and forget about it.

With YouTube and Twitch being such a massive platform I don't see why that wasn't enough. Screenshots are now from in game so it is a good representation of how a game is. Then on top of that there are user reviews. All these are accessible with a few clicks... it's not hard to make a judgement and buy it. Plus refunds are a thing. 2 hours is more than what demos used to be.

Like the creator of this post said : there is no demo and I don't know the world of piracy since I've joined Steam so it's complicated for me to trying it. I'm waiting the test of my favorite websites in order to make my choice. :)

If they can't be bothered to release a demo then you can't be bothered to care about morals if the game is awful, it's that simple.
It's exactly the same as with the games that have denuvo in them. If the publishers can't be bothered to remove it I can't be bothered to care those games exist.

- Your situation is due to your lack of patience. Given sufficient time, the information you require to determine whether or not a game is for you will almost always become available. You could have determined that without pirating the game. (As a side-note, the "demo" argument is just as empty.)
- If you want to help out the dev's at Square Enix, purchase one of their other games, either one you will enjoy, or one you feel good about gifting to someone else.
- Starting up a thread about Piracy is problematic as it invites some people to promote the idea. SteamGifts does not promote piracy, nor do we allow the promotion of it on our site. This kind of thread is apt to go sideways.

To 2: I did that already. I own every FF game on Steam thus far and other titles like Tomb Raider, etc. - I am a returning customer when it comes to Square games.

Step One: Be patient and take as much time as you need to be comfortable with a buy.
Step Two: Read the reviews. Watch the YouTube videos. Scan the User feedback.
Step Three: If you're still not sure whether or not to purchase a game, go back to Step One. Repeat as necessary.

If you have a history of pirating games and buying them afterwards anyways, why wouldn't you just buy the game on Steam and if it wasn't something you liked within the first two hours you could refund it.

So? It's just piracy, is not like you stole a physical copy from a store, you just made an unauthorized copy.
But if you really feel like you need to buy it to feel good about yourself just wait a few years for the game to go on a deep sale and then buy it, there's no real rush to correct your wrongdoing. I've been slowly buying games that I pirated in the past but only when they're cheap, it's not like tossing a bunch of money at them is going to undo what I did, I'm just doing this to satisfy my own conciense.

I haven't pirated for over a decade (with almost 3k games in my game library there is no need). But now I am considering to, for "demo" purposes. Reason - VR games may randomly not work on suitable rig. Some VR games are fake-exclusives - they still might work on other VR-set. It is not like incompatibility of xbox and PS, no, all VRs are basically HDMI-pluged monitors on your head.

i wonder just how long "quite some time" was. the steam refund period is something like 2 hours, so if you put in 20 hours before deciding it was a horrible game then why did it take you so long? maybe you kept hoping for it to get better and didn't have to be concerned with staying in the refund window so kept giving it more of a chance.
i'd recommend buying it on steam and then refunding it to show the developer / publisher that you were interested enough to try it out but ended up not liking it. pretty sure i've seen indie developers saying that they see refund numbers from steam, and that information should be valuable to them.
you also mentioned you downloaded an unauthorized copy as a demo because there wasn't a demo available. if there had been a demo and you played that and decided you didn't like it, you'd just delete the demo and never think of it again. but you feel different about what you did do, so maybe you shouldn't be downloading "demo" copies from illegitimate sources because if you don’t have the option to just abandon games you don't like then it's not a demo for you. which brings me back to "quite some time" -- maybe you played more of the game than would have been likely to be in a demo? you also said you'd buy it on sale, so you could put it on your wishlist and buy it when it does go on sale. steam can even e-mail you when that happens.

I'd say it's legit. Having a guilty conscience is a real thing, and something that may really bother someone, so why not address this issue, by talking about it for example, etc.?

Guilty conscience for what, doing zero harm? Sounds far fetched to me. He borrowed a copy of which there is virtually an infinite amount of. The people that "need to feed their families" have been paid already, since he wouldn't buy the game without trying it first anyway there's no money loss, and even if he would have taken a risk and bought the game if torrents weren't an option he could always support the devs by getting something else actually good from them.
If he really worried about people being unable to feed their families because of one guy that decided not to buy a game after playing it for 1 hour (lolwut) he'd give that money to charity for people that actually do need it to feed their families.
This is just being overdramatic over a demo.

Hey guys,
so I pirated "World of Final Fantasy" because I really wanted to try it out. As I grew up with PC demos for every game, I expected Square to release one.. well.. turns out there isn't one. And since YouTube videos portraited the game as somewhat mediocre I thought "Okay, fire up that good old Torrent program and if you get caught using it, it's your own damn fault".
So I downloaded the game and played it for quite some time. Turns out the game is horrible. I have never been so satisfied with an uninstallation before.
Now I have the following problem: I actually pirated games before to try them out, but purchased all of them afterwards. But with this one, it's different. Would it have been on sale, I'd glady purchase it anways. But I really do not feel like purchasing crappy shovelware for 40 bucks (!).
What would you guys do in my situation? Suck it up and cough up the money? Just uninstalling and forgetting about the whole thing is not really an option because even though the game is really, really terrible, I'm aware that there are still people behind it which need to feed themselves and/or their families. So this is what makes me feel bad.
I guess the fact that I have had purchased every pirated "demo" before made me think "Ah well, it's a Square game, how bad can it be?", ignoring the fact that I might be extremely underwhelmed and disappointed, which I am right now.
Did you ever had to go through something like that? If so, what did you do?
I tend to spend the money, if you're asking what my tendencies are.
