It should fit. Its performance would probably suffer though since the mobo and cpu would probably bottleneck it.

It's my machine and it's running a Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 2.5Ghz (Non-HT). Any other info needed?

£150? You can get a MUCH better card. The GTS450 is okay, but this: example clicky; £140 and quite a bit better. I'm an Nvidia fanboy, so not sure of the ATI equivelent, might be better at a lower price, might not be.
Oh, and if you wanna stay with the GTS: it can run WoW on Ultra, if that's any help for a good idea.

Thanks Ogran! I'm looking at Nvidia cards as well. As MaximumBunny suggested wouldn't the Mobo bottleneck?

let me just throw few links

these offer close-enough comparison of card goodnesses..

Just make sure you've got enough watts from your power supply. I recommend always having 15 watts spare, for all the stuff you can connect to your computer.
And since I'm fearing someone is gonna ask this, booting up a computer without enough watts can be done, but most of the devices won't be powered on, so always have more than what you need.

is there some kind of compatibility issues with putting ATI gear inside an intel?

Absolutely - NO! Previously i used C2D E6300, with hd 5670 - absolutely no problems..
Also with hd 6850 - you can unlock it , it will become as much powerfull as 6870. :)

Yep, no issues at all, my GF runs a HD6850 on a Core2Duo E6750 and it all runs just fine!

^This. You should be able to run Skyrim on ultra.

It also depends on the cpu, gpu is not the only pc part lol.

£150 for just the graphics card? That's quite a bit of money. You can get a GeForce 560 for that (checked on Amazon) or a Radeon 6870 if you're partial to AMD.
And of course, this is about the worst time to buy, considering that AMD is expected to announce the new mid range cards at the beginning of March, which is bound to have an effect on prices. NVIDIA is expected to have its next generation available in April.

hey there, I'm trying to give a mate some help on a new graphics card for his computer. but i'm not 100%
if someone could give me some advice, that would be so helpful
His motherboard is a Foxconn G31mx-k (sorry it's the best link i could find)
The graphics card we are looking at is the GeForce GTS 450 not sure which from this list to get. think it's the PCI-e
The budget is only around £150, so we're trying not to look at the biggest and best
basically, will this fit? will it be decent enough to play games even at medium/low quality
thank you so much for your help people.
