Odd when did SG start doing this
You do not have permission to view this giveaway, since you've been blacklisted by the giveaway creator
Where this option at I don't recall any like this

I think the message has been around as long as blacklists. Blacklists became a thing with the new, revamped SG, quite a long time ago.
If you go to someone's SG profile, there's an option to put them on your blacklist or whitelist ;)

Ever since SGv2 was implemented. You can open the giveaway in a private browsing window or a different internet browser where you are not logged in to view the giveaway (or log out and save the URL).

It's been a little over 2 years since that was added.

If you blacklist someone they can't see/enter your giveaways.
If you whitelist someone they can enter your giveaways that you make specifically for your whitelist(it works as a Group).

You can whitelist/blacklist anyone by visiting their SG profile.
You can find your current blacklist an whitelist if you click where it says Account at the top right and you'll see them at the sidebar there.
You can see how many others have white/black listed you at the stats page.

  • You've been on SG only 12 days less than I have.
  • According the a domain age finder, the domain steamgifts.com was founded on 2010-01-01.
  • cg once offered a trade on Steamtrades.
  • There are more than 5 times level 0 users registered than all leveled users combined.
  • Last March saw the most giveaways created in a month in the history of Steamgifts, with a total of 114,567 giveaways. That's more than 200 times the giveaways created on the launch month of Steamgifts.com.

Indeed it has, my first ever blacklists/whitelists are dated February 6 2015 and I'm not even sure that was the day it was implemented as I was quite new to the site still so I don't think I knew many people or they knew me.
Edit: ah, nvm, seems Mr.Bond had a more accurate date :P

Some gifter like to prevent previous winner to win their giveaway again, probably that's the reason.

Basic idea is nobody really should care much about being blacklisted. If you're somewhat active you will sooner or later.

Its more sign you're not afraid to state your opinion - hence badge of honor.

Its more sign you're not afraid to state your opinion

Generally, being concerned with blacklists is a meritless pursuit, for a fair number of reasons. The reasoning you offered may inherently be logically sound enough to be one of those reasons, but the implications it offers are nevertheless indicative of a disturbingly persistent trend on SG- that of refusing to take responsibility for one's own actions, by painting oneself as a victim, while making those with differing perspectives out to be victimizers.

Visibility, of course, plays a large part of blacklist rate- you're effectively getting blacklisted by a percentage of site users you come across, and the more you interact with the site, the more users you'll encounter. However, past that basic element, receiving any high rate of blacklists is generally a reliable sign of someone being a rampant rule-breaker or an enormous ass- and that's simply intuitive:
Everyone has their own preferences, and those preferences run across a wide spectrum. Thus, a relatively even spread should be expected for most blacklisting considerations. The primary reason someone would have higher blacklist rates than any other user is because they engage in a behavior that a majority of the community finds disagreeable, rather than just a niche percentage of the site.

Getting blacklisted [due to your commenting and giveaway habits] in high quantities is generally a sign that your behavior is inappropriate, not that the community is out to get you. Too often users try to play their immature, spiteful, entitled, etc behaviors off as them being brave champions of free speech and self-dignity.
And, well.. here, this comic'll do to answer that bit of utter nonsense:

That is still a very poor reason to ban member and that is not part of the SG rules that say we have to actually play game nor did the giveaway creator add this to on as parts of a gift condition which by the way if read the rule it clears states under Creating, You cannot ask users to perform any special action in order for their entry to be considered valid, such as liking a Facebook page, or following a Twitter account.
So technically speaking if I was to do this to you or any other member here I be breaking rules for set condition out side Steam gifts not counting my own regulations in my country, state, city, or other governmental area rule on top of what here just like where your from to has rule on ban people from entering in lottery or raffle and many other types of giveaway as many time they want.

From your own quoting of the guidelines:

... You cannot ask users to perform any special action in order for their entry to be considered valid

your entry was valid, no rules were broken

I ref to after perform any special action in order keep them for entry a public give way after fact is not some as broken the rules ?.

Let say you won one of my gift you still get the gift but I looking over your stat and I didn't like what I was seeing so I blacklist you from any further public and etc. gift enter because you didn't play game I gift right way and or for any other reason example.
Which apply to the first part (You cannot ask users to perform any special action) nor can hold back the gift which apply to 2nd part (order for their entry to be considered valid) he or she has all ready won.

Let so going to try win a car at dealer ship which is public giveaway but you put on blacklist because as some one has set there own rules and you made your entry but it late remove but here it real-time checking unlike at car dealer ship
Do get what I mean now ?.

They didn't ask you to perform a special action though. In fact, you don't even know what you did to earn a spot on their blacklist

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

but ... your entry wasn't removed. If it was, you wouldn't have one. Yes, you are prevented from entering (and thus winning) future gifts from that gifter, but as has been stated others can blacklist for whatever reason they want, that is one of the functions the site provides.

But they're not banning members.. it's simply a preference. Anyone can choose who they want to send gifts to. Going by your logic, private giveaways are also breaking every regulation implemented where you live.

Permalink

Actually no private giveaways are a different matter then open to the public.

Still, being a person's own money, they can choose to exclude anyone no matter their reason. SG is simply a platform that allows people to create and participate in giveaways.

I don't 100% understand what you said, but from what I understand you said you give away games yourself when you can, right? I never said you didn't, I just said that anyone can choose to who their games can and cannot go according to their own will.

When did users start entering as many giveaways as possible

Ever since the inception of the site. Old post about autoentries. In fact, the very first thread posted by cg had a user bring up the topic of mass entering giveaways:

Obviously there's gonna be those types of people who enter all the contests where the more conservative members only enter for the games they would like.

Also at the beginning, there was unlimited entries

Also complaints about thanks spam.

Well, it looks like you got your answer, but here are some more details:

Category Details
Average Playtime 4.4 minutes per win, 1.7 hours per played win
Total Playtime 14 hours
Average Achievement % 27.3%
Win Counts 4.21% (8/190) with playtime, 1.89% (2/106) with ≥1 achievement

You have won 190 games and played/idled 8. You have won 106 games with achivements and played 2. When you win a non-bundled game from an extremely generous user, they probably want you to play it and not hoard it ... you don't exactly have a great track record right now.

In the end, everyone BLs for their own reason, and as already pointed out you can't really avoid it and still use SG. I have no idea why I got most of mine, but if you post in discussions, always expect it to increase.
