Hi guys, I've just launched my first YouTube channel. It's called I Love Indies:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9AdA8eL65pZ0M8MtNfLy6g

It's a gaming channel dedicated to reviews and previews of indie games. In each video I try to provide a short summary of what the game is, show off the gameplay and share my views.

My accompanying Twitter page is:
https://twitter.com/IndiesLove

I needed a hobby during the COVID lockdown and I've always wanted to share my views on games, particularly indie games, with others. I only set up my channel a week ago and am still getting used to being a content creator. I'm hoping to upload 4/5 videos per week covering new and classic indies. This week I've posted videos on Ender Lilies, Call of the Sea and El Hijo. I hope to create videos on Encodya, Phoenotopia, Cyber Shadow and Olija in the coming days.

I'm hoping to run regular giveaways once I've got a bit more established. I've given away lots of games on Steamgifts since joining and would love to give away more on my channel - including higher value games. I also plan to create Top 10 lists, and the like, once I've got more confident.

I'm an English teacher by trade and have written reviews in the past. I set up a Steam Curator page last year and have written 100 indie game reviews since October:
https://store.steampowered.com/curator/38826909/

This is my latest video on Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights:

If you are able, I would be forever grateful if you would subscribe to my YouTube channel, and follow my Twitter page.

Thanks for reading. Trimallchio @ ILoveIndies

Yo, I don't watch videos like this so I won't subscribe, but I wanted to give some feedback instead, hope it helps.

  • Game voice is too low compared to yours
  • Your voice too high compared to the game, and too high overall
  • Your keyboard/controller sounds are a bit too high
  • Maybe you are talking a bit too much, it might be ok to stop talking while fighting etc. I mean you can say "take this you fucker" but you shouldn't explain the game. This may be personal tho, overall I always prefer "no commentary" over "with commentary".

The video I watched was Ender Lillies.

Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback. I'll definitely take on board what you've said. I'm still playing around with the mic levels to get them right.

I like the idea of your channel and how you title the videos - taking a game I've never heard and giving me some recognition by comparing it to some other popular indie games that are similar. Really neat presentation.

If I may offer you some feedback, the first thing I would go about upgrading is your mic if possible. The biggest problem is the amount of echo - your voice sounds far away and I can hear it bouncing off of your environment. Some of the best, cheaper mics I could recommend would be a Blue Yeti (some people prefer a Blue Snowball) or if you can shell out more money, my HyperX Quadcast has treated me super well. You may also be able to adjust your enviroment to reduce the bouncing as well, because it's less obvious in some videos like El Hijo and more obvious in others such as Yaga so that may be due to your environment.

Anyway, I like your choice in games you've picked. I hope to see you grow. Best of luck!

Thanks for the feedback. I'll look into those mics. I know it's worth investing in a good mic. What do you think is the best recording software for Steam games?

Recording software is highly up to personal preference. I use OBS and you can add audio filters to see it that helps you adjust the audio quality :) OBS is free of course. It may take a little bit of a learning curve but that's mostly if you're streaming and using multiple scenes with multiple overlays and other crazy stuff. Oh, and I subbed of course! πŸ’œ

Thanks so much for subscribing and the tips. I’ve downloaded OBS and need to play with it a bit. I’m a quick learner though! I’ve been using NVIDIA Shadowplay, which is easy to use, but perhaps not the best quality. Thanks again.

Any time dude, happy if I was of any assistance! Glad to hear you're a quick learner - just search some youtube videos about noise gates for OBS to reduce that echo and you're golden. Best of luck πŸ’œπŸ’œ

Hi GinaTonik. Hope you are well. I've got my Blue Yeti Mic now and created my first video using it. Would you mind having a quick listen to the audio levels and let me know what you think? Any feedback would be much appreciated. I'm also using OBS now. I did my latest vid on Skul: The Hero Slayer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=moa_XKSTzec

Hey man, I think your voice sounds soooo much better after using OBS! Wow it's really much improved. I hope you agree :D Skul is not my typical genre I like to play personally though I know it's a popular genre, however I made sure to leave a like for you! I watched a couple of minutes and the echo is nearly gone and your audio levels are consistent. You're getting a lot of views for a small channel so I hope to see you grow more in the future! Cheers!

Cheers. Thanks very much for the feedback. I think I can get rid of the echo by moving where I record. I've been recording in an alcove which might lead to sound bouncing. Anyway, I'm very pleased with my new mic. Thanks again for your help.

Yep, it's very surprising how much noise bounces off of walls and creates such an effect. I still think it's a looot better! I'm very happy for you :D I think it's great. Best of luck and I'm so glad I could help! πŸ’œ

I have been a lot into indie games recently, so I might give this channel a shot. I will save it for now and come back when I watch something.

Good luck with the channel :D.

Cheers. Thanks for subscribing. I’m a little bit obsessed with indie games. I think it’s the sheer variety and creativity that you get from the devs.
