If you made a giveaway, what kind of reason would cause you to request a reroll of the winner and giving it to someone else? (Note: This has not happened to me, I'm just curious).

The two I'd list are:

  1. Winner requests a reroll (maybe because he entered two giveaways for the same game and won both)

  2. Winner contacts me 5 minutes after the giveaway ends and rudely/profanely demands the game NAOOOO!!!!! (also fortunately never happened to me)

What reasons have you/will you do a reroll for?

I guess the winner couldn't be reached for more than 7 days or didn't activate the game after 7 days.

This isn't a situation that happened, just my curiosity.

Nevertheless, that would be a good reason I guess.

ive rerolled winners about 4 times in the past, all becuase the 4 people either won a game and regifted it or didnt activate it, i refuse to give anyone anything if they have broken the rules before

mods have always honored my requests to not reward rule breakers and accepted th ererolls

Some DLC listed on this site don't seem to block people who don't own the base game from entering. I had to reroll a giveaway a few times to get someone who actually owned the game and was able to use the DLC.

Not just dlcs. I have Dead Island GoTY but I'm still able to enter those giveaways.

I had a single key that activated both the base GOTY and expansion pack.
Entering while having the base game is technically entering a giveaway for a game you already own.

That's something you have to say in the description. If you don't mention it anyone can enter, even if they're only missing one DLC.

I did put in the description. It was in all caps and people were bitching about caps and still entered the giveaway anyways.

no it isn't/ aparently you can do it anyway. (I'll link the post I'm citing when I get back to my main computer.
it also is the one rule you can use in public, and doesn't need prior approval(putting it in the description was described by support as polite not requirement))

That's up to the giveaway creator to decide, though. So you need to specify it in the description if you intend to re-roll people who entered for DLCs only.

Edit: Too slow.

its up to the giveaway creator to decide, but not actually needed to specify in the description.

(besides if anything it should probably default to no rather than yes anyway since thats the one gifters may not know you could enter if you owned the base game and get upset(but yeah, aparentlty it defaults to "whatever the gifter decides, possibly retroactively if the didn't think of it")) specifing is pollite, but not necessary

My mistake in wording it. What I was trying to say is more like: "People will enter for DLCs unless you tell them not to in the description, so make sure to tell them so as to avoid re-rolls."

I won Borderlands 2 but i was busy those times so i noticed it only after 5 day, then added the guy just to let him know "im alive". I wasnt rude or anything didnt even asked him to send it to me right away or even to send it. Right after i added him he asked why i did (ofc he knew it why but) i told him "because i won one of your giveaway a few days ago" then he said he will re-roll it in this case , i was wondering a bit but he explained it, (its was in a popular public group and he was somekind of mod or the group leader or something) he said its hes group and he made a rule a few days ago, so if any1 who win anything from him and add him then even mentaion about the giveaway he will re-roll it. Well then yes he re-rolled it. After that we talked abit more about it and i said him i didnt even knew about this rule since its was new and i was busy those days and he didnt cared about it all. I was nice the whole time then after the "bye-bye" part he removed me. Peoples re-roll giveaways for every tiny reason...

I was the mod who handled that reroll request. I absolutely refused to do it and simply shut it down. Anyone who knows who the user is knows the result of that (anyone who doesn't, do not ask around). It was not a pleasant time and was one of the most petty arguments I've ever seen. I was tempted to buy you Borderlands 2 myself because you were being denied your win for ridiculous reasons.

Ah yes, I remember the whole thing very well, and suspected it was about this case. Man o fucking man, I left the persons' group after a sternly worded rejection of their idiotic behaviour and a very condescending rant from me to him/her through PM over this. I even told him/her that I'd rather touch a dead animal than a gift from them, and would rather not be in their group any more if their idea of fairness consisted of the way they treated some people, this specific case being the icing on the cake after lots of other similar issues, where people were treated like garbage with page long rants about them being leeches, ungrateful, and more horrible accusations and mean-spirited, spiteful messages by this person for simple acts like politely asking about a win, or disagreeing with this person in chats.

It's was definitely one of my worst online experience. i also couldn't believe someone is able to do something like this. It's was the reason why i left this site and didnt started giveaway games that time, but now im back and i want to give back to the community atleast that much i won :) , even thought i cant really afford it now since im jobless :( . That's was also really lucky i was the winner from around more than 6000 entries ... thats not happening every day maybe not even in a year or not even ever again and he made me feel thats was my fault why i didnt get my reward, so its just made it even more bad but i would have feelt bad with any other game too. I just do not wish anybody that feeling :|

Don't worry, you didn't do a thing wrong. You were away and, after five days, just gave a simple thing saying "I'm here." You didn't even ask for the game, all you said was you were online again. The reaction the giveaway creator had was absolutely goddamn psychotically out of proportion. I'm sorry it drove you away from the site, I really am. I'm glad you're back, Wex.

I'm sorry to hear about this. I perfectly understand that people are being generous by doing giveaways for these games, but in situations like this I think their "generosity" could be gone without. Stuff like this really does just leave a bad taste in one's mouth. I wish I could say I would buy you Borderlands 2 to try and remedy the problem, but I simply cannot as I do not know you very well.

That been said, since the game has had a price drop, I will give you a second shot at the game. It will last until my next payday in two weeks and will have your current contribution value as the requirement, good luck.

Let me know if you have my kind of luck on that giveaway, Wex. If you fail to win, I will find a way to gift you the game myself. I am also jobless, at the moment, but it pisses me off that you had to deal with that kind of crap treatment.

I've only done one re-roll - it was in a private giveaway. Winner accepted my friend request and was online all the time. I asked him for 7 days to make his Steam profile visible to me so I could verify he didn't already have the game. Also to verify he did activate the game after. He never did this. After 7 days I asked for a re-roll and was allowed to.

  1. Owning most of the Collection (unless specified that you wam enter for DLCs etc)

  2. Breaking rules stated in GA description.

  3. Being on blacklist.

  4. Cheating in puzzle and then entering puzzle GA.

  5. Leaking link to private GA / Entering via leaked link.

  6. History of regifting.

  7. Winner requesting reroll.

  8. Winner owns game already.

  9. Winner got kicked from a group, but did not leave group GAs.

Most obvious ones I can think of right away :>

Just so everyone is aware, while we do do this, we do not have endless patience. If it is clear a group has pisspoor management skills, we will create a ban on any rerolls for that group, ranging from a few weeks to forever.

In the future, schedule a re-do of the giveaway. Have everyone (still) in the group re-enter after the giveaway has been remade. For the sake of convenience, you may decide to reduce the length of the giveaway so that it ends at approximately the same time.

As a side note, I find that most entries occur within the first three days of any giveaway.

Shouldn't that be at the end when they can see the giveaway on the front page?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Not with private and group giveaways, no. Those are often posted or distributed by the creator in some way (always, in the case of privates), so anyone actually active and participating in the group will likely see the giveaway shortly after it is made. The only people who enter group giveaways at the last minute are usually the ones who aren't participating or interested in participating in the group and only joined to get access to a few low-entry giveaways.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I think it also depends on the number of points required to enter the giveaways and how long it's open. I always bookmark group giveaways that costs a lot of points and enter when it's about to end so that I can use those points on other giveaways that ends before the group giveaway. This is especially the case when the giveaway costs 30+ points and end after a week or something. In those cases you can see most entries at the end of the giveaway.

And with the huge influx of bundle games nowadays, points regenerate quite slowly sometimes. I think it's wiser to use those 30+ points on recent giveaways than putting them into a giveaway that's going to end after a week.

As for private giveaways, yeah, I guess it's better to enter as soon as possible because they don't appear on the front page and you are likely to forget about it until it's too late.

I had somebody win one of my giveaways, and just like I always do I checked out their profile first. The person had been registered a year, won 7 games, activated only one and regifted/traded the others.

I guess I was the only one who had actually checked. He got suspended and my gift rerolled. He's using the site again I think, but this time following the rules.
