I won't provide any information about the event as you should manage to find that too.
With 3.5m viewers each on Twitch and Youtube it was the most watched event after all.

But how did you like it? Which games were your favorites?
How likely are you to buy a PS5 and are you more or less likely to get one, after this event?

where is the option for "don't want to get it"?

Right below "I want to but I can't afford it" and above "My mom won't allow it". ;)

I want that option. "I want to but I can't afford it". The PS4 Pro right now is $1000 in my country. Maybe with the release of the PS8 i will buy the PS5.

Wouldn't that be "0%"? Or am I missing context?

Rather, the poll should have an option for "I don't want to get it while it look like.. that."

I've never once cared about console designs before [or, really, placed aesthetics over utility within any context], but that thing would just make me feel bad every time I interacted with it, or even casually glanced over at it. Well, let's only passingly note the clashing, poorly balanced color schemes on the console and controller, as those can be addressed simply by reskins [official or otherwise], and aren't extreme enough to fully fall out of the range of "reasonable subjectivity".

Let's instead consider that the console that looks precisely like what you'd expect if a bishop's hat was put together by a drunk & high designer. Weirdly, Sony had access to plenty of concept art for the console which seemed a lot less.. eccentric.

Indeed. I was only interested in how many people are how likely to get the console.
There are tons of reasons why people might not or might not want to get a PS5. It wouldn't make sense to try to cater them all with individual options.

Well, that's where

Rather, the poll should have an option for "I don't want to get it while it look like.. that."

comes in. Though the more generalized poll option would be "I don't plan on getting it now, but may eventually get it."

I can't answer the poll as-is, given that I do have interest in the games for the console, but my buying the console will completely depend on: If it becomes financially affordable, if the key games don't get Pc ports, and if the console design changes. If all three of those aren't true, I just flat out won't even begin to conside rthe console. I assume there's a fair number of other people holding to similar positions, on all three considerations.

Just hard to fit into a % framework, and the lack of responses [or forced 'gut feeling' selection] of those users will affect the poll results. Though, given that it's an SG poll, I assume you're not taking it too firmly at face value, to begin with. :P

tl;dr version: Polls always need an "Other" option. ;P

But that's what is supposed to be covered by the probability. A current gut feeling how likely you consider a scenario (aka combination of circumstances) that would result in a purchase. ;)

Edit: I personally chose 20%. I was very much into the PS3, but a rather lame early support for the PS4 and an annoying price level in the European store.playstation.com, resulted in me abandoning the PS4 pretty quickly. And I doubt that the situation will improve next gen.
I'll probably be good by borrowing one for Horizon II and Spidey II.

Same here. I delayed getting a PS4 for about 5 years because I had plenty of games from the previous generation still in my backlog, making the console a low-priority. The exact same scenario applies for the next gen

Why should I speculate about Bloodborne? And an enhanced PS5 GTA 5 doesn't mean that the PS4 GTA5 wouldn't run.

Actually we are all speculating here, since Sony hasn't confirmed or shown anything about the PS4 Backwards Compatibility yet. And Nothing about PS1-PS2-PS3-PSP-PS Vita Backwards Compatibility. Only said the vast majority PS4 Games. But that raises the question on how many will that be? And how many wouldn't. Also the PS4 version of GTA V will be Upgraded for free when is played on PS5? Or I have to Re-Buy the game again for 3rd time to have better graphics & performance? Also PS Plus Needs to Go. Paying Extra to play your favorite $60 game Online is just Wrong!

Looks like they're currently expecting it to retail up to 50% higher than the DS4 [in any region], even before factoring in DS4's steep discounting [which (at the best DS4 discount relative to no discount on the new controller) would bring the DS5- excuse me, DualSense- to anywhere between double and triple the cost of a DS4].

DS4s work fine enough, I think I'd avoid splurging.. especially for something so unbelievably garish. And while the DS4 had much better balancing, along with better performance, comfort, shape, etc than the DS3, there doesn't seem to be any real indication [yet] that the DualSense has changed anything [general use wise] other than very minorly tweaking the layout.

Well, the buttons have improved haptic feedback and adaptive tension, but that'd be something only relevant for games designed with the DualSense in mind [ie, PS5 games]. Unless you're absolutely desperate to get the admittedly annoying shoulder+bumper button layout on the DS4 adjusted so that the shoulder and bumper buttons are easier to switch between, there doesn't seem to be any real compulsion to buy a DualSense specifically to relpace a DS4..

What's your take on it?

The factor for me is that games in the future will support DS5 better over 4, as it happened with 3( I traded in my working 3 for a 4 just last year, cost $10 afterwards) so it's less the performance and more about compatibility. But as I said, there's no hurry to replace it if the price is so high and my DS4 still works - I don't expect it die though.

0%. I got a ps4 and it barely had any games I really enjoyed. ps5 looks worse to me, thanks to them keeping the dumbass motion controls, touchpad, and adding a microphone that I'm sure some games will force the use of. The games that really interested me were Horizon, Spidey and Demon's Souls, so, I hope at least some make their way to Steam in the future.

Actually the switch to SSD will give them an advantage over the PC, by the nature of their business. While developers can't expect every PC to run games from a SSD, PS5 developers can.
The Ratchet & Clank trailer showed the impressive result, in form of a level design that only works in such a scenario.

Permalink

advantage? i doubt it.
by now basically every pc intended for even light gaming has at least one ssd in it. if it doesn't it's most likely you can't run games on that potato anyway.

Hm, Steam's hardware survey sadly has no data on that topic. While most gaming PCs will have some SSD, I do doubt that a majority also uses their SSD for most (not to mention all) game installations.

Anyway, the PS5 has a 100% SSD coverage and a game that uses this circumstance for some new gameplay mechanic. I'm not aware of any PC game doing the same. And the most likely reason why there is no such PC game ... yep, sounds like an advantage.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

true but then they will use the small ssd for their biggest and most played games so it doesn't really matter.
also what new gameplay mechanic is that supposed to be? i didn't see the wheel being reinvented in that trailer.
edit: the rifts? uh yeah fast storage is good and all but more ram is even better than that.

either way it will benefit the development of future games and that's always a good thing.

I don't doubt that, I simply state that PC developers don't have any reassurance that their games will run from a SSD.
Otherwise there'd be a game switching between multiple worlds on the fly. The PS5 has such a title among its release candidates.

And articles already cover how the PS5's biggest strength might be held down because the PC ports can't keep up.

Better still for Sony, the PlayStation 5's SSD is about twice as fast as the one found in the Series X, with up to 825GB of storage, a raw 5.5GB/s throughput, and up to 9GB/s worth of compressed data. As with the Series X’s power advantage, it's tricky to say how much of a difference the PlayStation 5’s SSD will make since developers often create their games for the lowest common denominator, which in this case, could be even slower PC hard drives.

it will take a while before nvme ssd with pcie gen 4 take over. until last year's amd zen 2 launch there was no pcie gen 4 for consumers out in the wild. and even now they are kind of rare.

so in fact not the ssd is the advantage but access to newer and faster connectivity. not surprising since amd does the silicon for both new consoles.

That's why there's something called system requirements. Games will start having SSD as a requirement.

I can't even afford the current gen consoles, let alone thinking about the new ones. Hopefully the price of the PS4 will tank when the PS5 comes out (and if the backwards compatibility really happens) so maybe I can get the couple exclusives I would like to play.

I've only recently got a PS4 for my birthday, and it was mainly for The Last of Us, my favourite game even before I got to play it. So if I buy the PS5, it will be at least in 3/4 years, depending on the exclusive games they'll have.
