My friends that still play DDO have told me that the devs're planning on doing mandatory migrations from old DDO servers to the new 64 bit servers in about two months (if someone wants to find me an actual reference to post, feel free), and that they'll be deleting old servers (and thereby, any characters you may still have on old servers) sometime following.

So might be worth doing a quick reinstall and login [note, I think there's a specific process for the migrations, so maybe glance down and see if anyone's posted that info before rushing to install], for anyone who has any interest in ever playing the game again (can you believe DDO is even still around, especially with Standing Stone's bizarre fixation on releasing updates that are only ever massively imbalanced?)

PS: There's an 85% sale on one of the recent expansions (Feywild) in the online store atm (bringing it down to 6-20$, depending on edition selected), for anyone thinking of coming back more long term. Also, just a reminder that the older packs/expansions go free or near-free during the anniversary (in February, iirc) each year, so do keep that in mind if considering any purchases.

As you can tell, I didn't have time to properly source any info (in the process of moving, yeeeech), so if anything's at all off, please forgive me and do please post whatever info you can pull up yourself. :)

Oh, and since we haven't had a discussion on the topic in years, anyone currently playing an MMO (or even just non-MMO multiplayer online games like Path of Exile) do feel free to post your thoughts or recommendations on the topic of MMOs, past or present!

5. Yes. Can't get enough of those kobolds. I'm all about the DDO.
4. Sure, I guess. Hmm, so the new update'll let you play as a vampire, huh?
3. The game has all sorts of wacky objects- broccoli, hams, kobolds- but why no potatoes? WHY NO POTATOES, DDO!? WHY!
2. DDO, huh? But can I make a Night Elf Mohawk in it? Didn't think so.
1. More like DD No.

It's nice to see that some old MMOs are still around, I used to play a lot of them, some more than others. I have played DDO, I didn't really care for it too much.

Off the top of my head the ones I put a good amount of time into were FFXI, PWI, Marvel Heroes, Archeage, Acheage Unchained, GW2, Neverwinter, TESO, FFIV, New World, Atlantica Online, Trove, Runescape, WOW, and Lost Ark

I play Lord of the Rings Online (Lotro) which is owned by the same company that own DDO. I owned a small house and after reading the Lotro forums for a bit I decided I would transfer. The world chat was full of people who had lost items. A lot of it sounded like those had perhaps left items on hooks in the house. I transferred as many items as I could to my characters and stuffed as much as I could into those characters' bank accounts, with the remaining items to be left in the house chest. I had no issues whatsoever.

I assume the transfer for DDO players would be identical. I was thinking of staying on my 32bit server but after a lengthy chat with another player who worked in the computer industry I decided the writing was on the wall for the 32bit servers. Seems that has come true. I do have a low level character on DDO - I guess I need to log in and look at transferring there as well.

As far as my thoughts on playing Lord of the Rings - absolutely love it. Yes it is an older MMO. I don't care. I am on a new server with a bunch of laid back players who, like me, love the game, like the questing, like the lore, love the journey. A friend and I held back on transferring so we could assess the different server populations. After a few weeks there was a little feedback on which servers were a tad toxic. We chose a roleplaying server. I don't roleplay but the roleplayers give no one a hard time. SSG is still expanding the world and introduces new areas, quests and tweaks every year. The base game is free, up to level 95 I believe. I have been playing for 5 years and my free to play main character is just 90. I hope I have years of fun and entertainment ahead of me.
