Yes
Either "entry" for $12.99 / £7.69 / 10.99 € month

basically thats just less character slots - you can level all classes in one character so its really not needed to make alts. People play one character forever basically unless they wanna raid more (to get around weekly locks)

Or "standard" for 14.99$ / £8.99 / 12.99 € month. If you somehow need 40 char slots across datacenter which is super niche thing (basically money making or roleplaying 40 chars lol)

You get 30 days free with base games purchase (sadly no extras for expansion)

Thanks, I play FFXI before I think that was the last FF MMORPG I paid. While it is enjoyable at that time, had to spend too much time on end game events/Raid/Clan activities so I stopped.
Feel like this one would be another one of those and would require lots of time once you get to some level.
I'll skip for now.

I've been playing FFXIV for like 4 years (not concurrent since it has a membership that sometimes I need to pause) but it has the best gaming community I've seen so far. Let me know if you join and I'll be glad to help since I have all healers max level xD

Few reminders:

  • Free trial gets you up to stormblood, which is 2nd expansion. So you can get start story + 1st expansion + 2nd expansion free. With restrictions like gil cap and chat restrictions, but no time limits. Since the sale ends 27th I suggest starting up with free trial to get some feel for it https://store.steampowered.com/app/312060/FINAL_FANTASY_XIV_Online_Free_Trial/
  • Steam version is different from "Windows" version (sometimes called "mogstation" on 3rd party sellers). "Windows/Mac version" is standalone version and you CANNOT link steam with it. And if you buy from steam, you need to buy expansions on steam forever. And vice versa, if you buy windows version, steam purchases wont work.
  • Steam is easiest way to get the game because they love to hide their downloads lmao
  • If you sub to the game during trial you will need to keep paying sub. It doesnt "downgrade" you "back to trial" if you dont pay.
  • There is crossplay between PS4/5 players and Xbox players, they all play on same servers. Just make sure to pick right datacenters at start =)

Its a great MMO and yes levels 1-50 are slog to go thro. Prepare for lots and lots of reading (story is mandatory to get to new expansions). Its a great story tho with lot of twists, turns, heart-gripping stuff. And some people say "Shadowbringers expansion has best FF story ever".

Asked my friend and yeah you should be able to. You log to "mogstation" and select steam wallet as payment.
They also send me this image as proof https://i.imgur.com/XEy29Y4.png

And support article says its possible for steam users https://support.na.square-enix.com/faqarticle.php?id=5382&kid=64540

Very much considering it. A friend of mine played the heck out of it. I haven't touched an MMO in more than a decade.

A 39 metacritic user score opposed to a "Very Positive" on Steam should raise a red flag. My tip: get FF XV instead via Microsoft reward program for free which I'm playing and enjoying right now.

You're looking at the page for the original version of the game (1.0, which was considered by many to be FFXI 2.0), you need to look up the FFXIV: A Realm Reborn (aka FFXIV 2.0) listing instead.

FFXIV (Release Date: September 22, 2010)

  • User Score: 3.9

FFXIV: A Realm Reborn (Release Date: April 14th, 2014 [PS4; the date used on Metacritic's listing], August 27th, 2013 [PC/PS3])

  • User Score: 7.0

There's also listings with their own user scores for each expansion:
FFXIV: Heavensward (User Score: 8.0)
FFXIV: Stormblood (User Score: 7.5)
FFXIV: Shadowbringers (User Score: 9.0)
FFXIV: Endwalker (User Score: 9.0)
FFXIV: Dawntrail (User Score: 5.3; still ongoing, so the score may get better or worse by the time the game reaches the 7.5 update)

Thanks for the detailed answer. That changes my perception of the game a lot. I'm new to tthe FF franchise so I don't know all the ins and outs.

The original version of FFXIV was a horrid mess. The marketing for the relaunch was great and they made a trailer showing the old version basically getting destroyed and it being reborn.

FFXIV is one of the best MMORPGs on the market. It's a great game and the community aspect of it is even better. I've played tons of MMORPGs and I it easily has one of the best communities in MMOs.

Well, Final Fantasy XV Windows Edition was on offer at Microsoft store for 14 € and Episode Ardyn DLC for 5 € recently. You can get vouchers worth 5 € and 25 € for their store by doing daily searches and other tasks on their Edge browser.

Since I have like 1000+ hours in this game and I've done basically all content except the newest expansion(since I quit xD) I could give my input here if someone finds it useful. It's not a bad deal, but I personally went with the off steam version as to not be locked on steam, more often deals on the off steam version. It's on sale for the same amount right now.

In terms of end game content, once you do get there(and it's gonna take you time), yeah it's basically the standard end game loop where you will run the same dungeons over and over again until new ilvl gear is pushed out and you do that for that, every month or few months or so. PVP in this game is an absolute joke compared to... well any other games pvp.

However, I think it's worth playing once just for the story and exploring the rest of the world. At least that was the most enjoyable part for me. Also can recommend the Gold Saucer(there's an entire mahjong game in there if you know it along with a bunch of other things), Eureka and the Hildebrand questlines. Community wise, it was the least toxic in any mmo I played at least on Adamantoise. You can just chill in Limsa Lominsa at the crystal and listen to the music, or level up all your crafting to max. You'll get high levels to help you in low level dungeons, there's perks for them.

I also thought it was really cool that all your progression was on one character, so you don't gotta make 2 characters for a mage and a warrior, 1 character does them all and you just swap, and you have inventories for the gear for each swap. You can make multiple characters, but you're basically starting from 0. You can also travel to other realms if your friends are on other realms, but you become limited in what you can do.

I stopped because the grind didn't appeal to me anymore. But if you're looking for something to do every week, it should keep you busy, there's plenty of "daily/weekly" stuff to do.

Also the meme(no ref link of course)
Did you know that the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV has a free trial, and includes the entirety of A Realm Reborn AND the award-winning Heavensward expansion up to level 60 with no restrictions on playtime? Sign up, and enjoy Eorzea today! https://secure.square-enix.com/account/app/svc/ffxivregister?lng=en-gb

(ps: meme as it is, going all the way through Heavensward for free is imo about 300+ hours of content even if you're rushing some things, I bought the game straight up and went at it, but you could play all the way through Stormblood nowadays for free and then buy the game and sub).

Everything is now lvl 100, but here were my jobs(classes) and professions when I stopped.

In terms of MMO's to date, WoW is still #1, and FFXIV is easily #2 but depending on what you're looking for, that order is reversed as it was for me at some point.

I've been playing the free trial for years. I first tried it on the PS3 but started over on Steam. Taking my ever-loving sweet time doing the MSQ (main story quest) and getting side tracked by grind events or side quests and so on.
I've been putting off going full and subbing but I guess it's now or never.
Even as a trial player with limitations there has been so much to do.
It can be confusing jumping to the full game. I've researched it time and time again and I'm still confused.

Been playing for over 4 years with paid membership (not 100% of the time since sometimes I can't afford it), 2500+ hours of gameplay, still not dedicated enough to do Savage/Ultimate runs (without a static team is quite difficult), but it has been a very nice journey <3

Is it worth it to play as a single-player only ? Is the multiplayer stuff optional ? I don't care for MMOs, but I want to experience the story as it gets praised a lot.

I'd say yes, since most of the MSQ (main story quests) can be played solo via the Duty Support (NPCs) system by now. That's how I played most of the story when I could only get on during long queue times (depends on the server/data center and what kind of content you're trying to run; ie. atm, most people tend to stop queuing up for PVP on Siren [Aether] after 2-3AM [AST]) or when I was busy around the house doing chores. That said, you won't be able to avoid multiplayer content at times. Neither raids nor most trials (instanced duties where you just go in to fight a boss) allow the use of the Duty Support system (the latter for story reasons); there's only 1 raid series that's part of the MSQ during ARR (A Realm Reborn).
