You better close/delete this before you get a temporary ban. SG prohibits trading on the site. Go to Steamtrades as mentioned above.

So I wonder, in a situations like this, when mods ban users for rule breaking, do they also contact said user and explain the reason? Or are you left wondering what you did wrong?

Nope, no contacting. The user usually knows what he did wrong, if they don't they haven't read the FAQ.
Edit: I guess they don't contact for smaller infractions.

Sometimes we offer a warning without taking any action but when we do take action against someone the reason is listed on the suspension so the SG community member does know what they've done wrong. In instances where it's a recurring issue a much more severe penalty such as a permanent vacation from SG is delivered.
