Dunno. While I think I can understand why many people hated it, since it really had some annoying parts and gameplay mechanics, I still kinda liked the idea with the room, i'ts atmosphere and it's story, But like I said: I too think that 1-3 are way better.

That genre isn't my cup of tea, but I really enjoyed Resident Evil Revelations.

It doesn't have anything to do with the games you mentioned but if you haven't played it yet i totally recommend Dead Space 1
Not an hard game per say, nor does it have much action in it, but it is the one that maintains a very consistent atmosphere through the entire game.
its just very well crafted, it plays with light, sound and music to keep you on your toes rather than showing anything to graphic or jump scares, which makes the death screens much more effective imho
While dead space 2 tries to much to scare you, with stuff like dead babies which is common thing you would see in an horror movie

Most that come to mind have already been suggested. But Layers of Fear is definitely worth a play through, it's just not survival horror, it's more of Psychological Horror.

What you're looking for, I think, are games that aren't 2D sidescrolling, which are usually what I play, but more "open world" with first person POV that may or may not allow combat to fight monsters. Here's what I've got:
I Can't Escape: Darkness
Dungeon Nightmares II: The Memory
Kholat
Cry of Fear
Doorways
Metro 2033
Condemned: Criminal Origins
Penumbra
