So basically i woke up today and saw this message.
Apparently i'm not alone and all of the keys for this game got revoked. It doesn't matter from which source you got it. For me it is just a dick move. Too bad this game isn't on steam store anymore, so i can't report it. :( I guess there's not much i can do about this situation other than just sit in a corner of my room and cry, cause of -1 to my library. :(

EDIT: Official response by the dev

EDITx2: NEW OFFICIAL RESPONSE BY THE DEV: link
His talking to valve about reactivating those redeemed keys. Only time will tell if it's another lie or truth. Can't judge right now, at least he sees his mistake.

SidAlphas video about the topic: link

ALSO GUYS, REMEMBER: While it is important for people to be aware, DO NOT make this a witch hunt. Remember the punishment for "calling out" and resist the urge to post attacks on individuals.
I've changed the title of the discussion. I admit i've got a bit too emotional and i should't have called anyone like that.

The game is back in the library for everyone that had it already. The topic will remain open for 2/3 days and after that i will close it, as there is no point in keeping it open.

Was your key also revoked?

Yes.
No.
I don't own this shitty game.

Regardless of the current situation, what @DanielThomsen said about dev never promising retail keys so it might be that they gave away beta/press keys and now have the right to revoke them, bothered me. I went back to the source from these forums [link removed] and it is true, what dev said is actually:

Vote for the game you would like to see come on Steam, and you will eventually get a key for it once Greenlit!

and later explained

It means, if game got Greenlit I will provide keys... :)

and

I will create many giveaways as soon as game publish! Well, individual developers are loyal to customers and contributors! :)

Contributors meaning, as he responded to DeltaBaldeX, people who vote for the game (and get a key from them later after the game gets Greenlit).

Then there's several mentions of giveaways + keys for voters... then the thread got closed, but someone grabbed a screenshot before the developer erased the entire OP there to hide all of this.

Now, I'd agree with @DanielThomsen that the dev never explicitly said "retail keys" but come on, not once did he even implied that the keys would be limited in any way. I guess people should know he's just joking - he did use emojis after all.

Also, where are those "many giveaways" in their profile? Anyone can check that they gave 0 games total. Yes, I understand mentioned giveaways might have been meant for another website like WGN, but why mention giveaways here, on a giveaway website, and not explicitly say they are gonna be organized elsewhere?

And yes, I've seen the "I'm just a teen", "they were press keys all along" excuses recently posted on Steam board, but... why promise people keys, never say they are "limited in any way", clearly state how you're an individual dev and are going to be "loyal" to people who help you and then take back the keys from those same people, delete the thread OP and any traces that could lead back to your promises... not to mention depots and other stuff, which he also did last year two btw.

He may claim now that Carlmundo knew all along about keys being "for press", which might be true (as I already said we don't know which option is really true but all are messed up), but it wasn't Carlmundo who promised keys and giveaways to people here, then closed the thread and deleted his messages not knowing someone grabbed the screenshot in time.

It's like, really really stinky situation.

Be careful with your post(s). People need information to understand what is going on, but this could easily turn ugly.

OK. I didn't link any source that wasn't in the thread already and didn't name anyone who wasn't named already... Also avoided linking to devs sg profile or steam profile completely - but I hear you and understand. Will refrain from now on.

Thanks. I've already had to deal with a few people because someone divulged too much information.

Even if they were press keys, nothing says they have to expire, many times they are used by publishers also as promotional keys for things like giveaways.

That's what I said in the linked comment on the previous page, among the other things. Also that giving beta/press keys and not saying that they are that is really sneaky, specially if they planned to revoke them later but end users didn't know this.

I have begun the process of going through the individual posts to see if anyone needs a time-out. While it would have made things easier to close the thread, I am reluctant to do so because there is some valuable information in it that should be announced.

People just have to make things complicated. P

Here's something for you to include in your OP:

While it is important for people to be aware, DO NOT make this a witch hunt. Remember the punishment for "calling out" and resist the urge to post attacks on individuals.

That may not be the best way to say it, but I am hoping people think twice before posting.

Done :) I hope so too, mainly the purpose of this thread is to inform people about the situation, not really to make a "witch hunt".

Well at least he's trying to fix the situation now, he asked Valve to unban all the keys. We'll see if they have a mechanism to do that and what will happen later.

Didn't the Steamworks documentation clearly mention that revoked keys cannot be restored?

If he really wants to fix it then he most likely has to request new keys and send them out to people affected.

Well I don't work at Valve, so I don't know what THEY can do if you ask them nicely :)

huh? Revoked keys were restored several times by now.
Disabled unactivated ones Valve doesn't reinstate for whatever reason, which is bs, but that's their whole company too since longer.

Dev:

I’m a teenage, and maybe I made some mistakes in my way, but my intensions were never to hurt people.

Clearly there needs to be an age limit to submit on Steam. How is this even possible to publish anyway with minors being unable to enter into contracts?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well the meaning of "teenage" is not the same for all country (I guess?), like the age for being legally an "adult".
Anyway someone on the Steam has post his freelance and likedin profile and he goes to college.
But "college" have different meaning from country to country, so who knows?

Permalink

True, it could be 18 or 19 also. To enter into a legal contract where Valve is located, USA, you must be 18.

Where I live college = university (and only that) you have to be 18+ for go there.
If someone used the excuse "I'm a teen" is normal thinking he's like 15 or less and I do not think he's so young.
I dnt know the game but a teenager for me can do some messy game with RPGmaker don't made a messy game for mobile and a porting pc (and sell key for vote/advertisement and after make such a mess -.-)

Yes, him using it as an excuse made me think of 14.

But is pretty stupid, is ob Valve will not make a contract with an underage.
Oh well.. is making a fuss with his game and, if I understand right, he had a lot of fake-achievement on his profile.
Keep a low profile, wasn't better? sigh

Edit: and someone in SidAlphas video comments prove is more or less an asset-flipper

I will be honest, as a fan of Carlmundo back when he started the Who's Gaming now Twitch Channel, i was disappointed when i read about his Idle Army and while there certainly always be people that sell keys they got for free, i wouldn't put it past Carlmundo sell promotional keys.

So overall i don't think the Dev is in the wrong here.

EDIT: I say that and then when i do some more digging and find out he made the game unplayable not only for those who got a key from the pool that was going to Carlmundo, but for everyone

Bad Dev, NO!

He clearly was pissed from Carlmundo and probably valve pressing on the mass key dump for both promotional and for monetary purposes, from Carlmundo.
That still doesnt justify his actions, he clearly appreciated the stunt while it lasted

It's a bit difficult for me to say something and have everyone read it. I did post this on one of the dev's threads:

It's a shame that it had to blow up like this. Just to clarify keys were sent to me in exchange for some work that I did for Keval (Winter Soldier). While I do not use them, I would like to note that a google search for the game on release (before I was sent anything) yielded a few grey market websites where the game was being sold.

Also, I'm not sure what shady stuff you are referring to but I've added you as I'd like to clear that up and one more thing, I was never made aware that those keys would be revoked later.

Hopefully Steam are able to reverse the ban as he requested.

Mostly your idle Army. Last October i opened a Digi Homi Thread and someone starting talking about WGN and from there people voiced their opinion, which aren't all too favorable of you.

That's the thing, one side says this, the other that and we as outsiders have to pick a side or ignore it altogether. Like i said i was once a fan of yours, almost 3 years ago so i lean slightly in your direction to believe what you say... i guess?

Permalink

Well IdleArmy is a thing and I have permission/paid to use those keys so I don't see the big deal other than perhaps I could give them to the community, which I already do already.

Yes, there is a lot of hear-say, even with this topic so it can be difficult to get all the facts.

Wow. Who could have believed that an asset flip by an immature developer could go wrong in any way?

Not being sarcastic or witch hunting in any way. Just sticking to the facts and genuinely shocked by all this.
