There are many great video game composers out there but not all of them make great music that fits the game well... So, who's your favorite composer?

My favorites are:

  • Nobuo Uematsu - Final Fantasy IX
  • Jim Guthrie - Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery
  • and Jeremy Soule for the Elder Scrolls games

I don't think you should compare them. I personally currently like Ben Prunty, nervous_testpilot and Solar Fields. But there are also some very good older composers. Especially all those that made music for the C64.

Frank Klepacki. Hands down, one of the game composing gods.

:ahem: I think it's important to point out that Jeremy Soule has done a LOT of really good game music that has nothing to do with The Elder Scrolls. The first major thing I can think of being Total Annihilation, which had a truly amazing soundtrack for its era (aside from being one of the best games ever made in other respects).

All things considered, I'd say that he's completely overtaken Uematsu as my favorite game composer.

I also think that Shawn Lee's soundtrack for Bully was pretty awesome.
